MN vs. MN State Mankato: Where Exactly Are The Speed Traps On 169?

Re: MN vs. MN State Mankato: Where Exactly Are The Speed Traps On 169?

2-14-4 :D

I would like to say it was a great game, but it really was kind of ho-hum for most of it, IMHO. At one point, I turned to Tuna and said, "this is really a battle between the bottom teams in the WCHA, isn't it?"

The Mavs put a ton of shots on goal early, but the Gopher rushes in the 2nd were much better. Lee was up to the task most of the time, and the Mavs were very lucky one of those juicy rebounds didn't find the back of the net. When the Mavs finally took the lead you could just feel it was a "finally" feeling by the team. A hard-fought battle that ended up in their favor this time. A very solid showing on the road in the big picture. Great 2 points.

Hopefully the energy in the Verizon is better than Mariucci--for both teams sake. The students that sat around us could have cared less about what was going on (again, it was kind of boring off and on and really, and I'll admit the party afterwards was probably most important when you are 19-20).

According to FCS, we'll have to wait until after the Wild game to watch the game on TV.

Go Mavs! Get the sweep!

Thoughts on the evening:
-Mariucci is a great hockey arena, lots of tradition and aura.
-Mariucci was very quiet tonight, the energy level was very low (no chanting and barely any clapping or yelling)
-Neither team looked great tonight but I thought Mankato played better in the first period, the Gophers played better in the second and a slight edge to Mankato in the third.
-A nice win for Mankato, needed the two points.
-Saturday night should be fun, I hope Mankato can put together a complete game.

Go Mavs!!

I'm so Happy right now. ;)

Also, thanks to John Hill for calling it like it is. His words were "uninspired", "unemotional", and "not good" in describing the Goofs first period effort.

I put this in the score updates, too, as I was watching SCSU/UAA...

In watching the tape delay (after being there in person), the game has been much better on TV. Many chances by both teams and the play seems faster. Of course, the anxeity factor is down due to knowing the outcome, but still ;) :)

Patterson was HUGE on the 5x3 about half way through the 3rd and the bookended 5x4s

Austin Lee did leave some rebounds that I wish he wouldn't have, but was just great 1 on 1. The Mavs D stepped up and kept the puck clear. I can't believe there were only 6 penalties in the game (only 1 on the Mavs )

Hill also said MN players need to pull it out of each other.

Re: MN vs. MN State Mankato: Where Exactly Are The Speed Traps On 169?

Tonight's overall floundering and lack of effort by the Gophers seems an all too familiar pattern at this point. This again was an extremely important series in an attempt to climb out of the cellar and show life as a team. Obviously, that didn't happen tonight and the blame must be primarily placed upon the team itself. There is not the consistency nor the chemistry that some of us expected at the beginning of the season. Even key players such as Schroeder and Fairchild seem ineffective to break this pattern of ineptitude.

This team may represent the epitome of embarrassment for a proud Gopher program over the past decade. It's becoming increasingly more realistic to expect this team to end up close to the bottom of the WCHA, miss the F5 and NCAAs, and close a dismal and tortured season on a low point.

Although it's perhaps premature, looking at the future of the Gopher hockey program seems to look more like a deadend to me. I'm at a loss as to what significant recruits lie ahead that will again put this program back on track where it once enjoyed extraordinary success. From a coaching standpoint, I believe change is looming large over the program and Maturi may now be thinking hard and long about what options are available for the future. This is not only a proud hockey tradition but is also one of the three athletic programs at the UM that generates significant revenue. All of these factors must be taken into consideration now.

It's been a rather gay season. I just never expected to get verbal confirmation from the assistant coach.

Re: MN vs. MN State Mankato: Where Exactly Are The Speed Traps On 169?

Good opener... Can't wait to bring it all down to Mankato tomorrow night!

Goaltenders played like the legendary netminders from that incredible playoff series in Mankato 2 seasons ago...

You know the ones... Mike Zacharias and, uh... what was that other kids name???

Re: MN vs. MN State Mankato: Where Exactly Are The Speed Traps On 169?

While I'm here... Frank Mazzocco has got to start pronouncing "RYLAN GALIARDI" correctly! It's driving me nuts!

They dropped the ball on the younger TJ Galiardi when the Wild played the Avalanche last week, and now he's fudging Rylan Galiardi up too...

It's not Ryan Galardi...
it's R-Y-L-A-N, and then there is an "L" in his last name too.
What are you, LETTER BLIND?

I know he mispronounces many names out there, nobody is asking him to get 'em all correct... but I can't take it anymore. Lucky for me, I can watch the game live tomorrow night and find something else to pee and moan about.
