MN Hockey - "We're So SPECIAL!"

Re: MN Hockey - "We're So SPECIAL!"

I'm not the only person who thinks responding to the troll is a waste of time.

Same. It's why at this point, I just resort to snark. There's nothing to be gained from taking JDUBBS seriously or egging him on, so I have no idea what Gurt is going for here.

Egg him on if you'd like. But then don't bring it into the Gophers season thread again like Gurt did when he starts posting garbage in the UW and UND season threads again.

BTW - I'm not even convinced JDUBBS is a Gopher fan. I'm beginning to think he is a fan of another team trying to make Gopher fans look dumb.

He is. A fan from any other program would have been smart enough to know that job was done to completion long ago.

What then is responding to the person who is responding to the troll multiple times after the respondent also responded to you?

Troll! :p

"Since Minne hangs AAU championship banners as well as NCAA championship banners they appear to value them equally. Wouldn't it then follow that if they hang NCAA runner-up banners, they should also hang AAU runner-up banners? Or, conversely, if they don't hang both NCAA and AAU runner-up banners, they don't value them equally, and, therefor, shouldn't hang AAU championship banners." That is the logic that people are trying to get to - the dots that mnsofh hasn't been able to connect.

Likely because that would be way too many banners and we don't want to show off too much. Plus what happens after a few big ten seasons? Do we take down all the WCHA banners? Does UND and WI take down theirs? I'm guessing they won't, but why not? According to this logic they should because they no longer play in the conference. Anyone know if Michigan State still has anything for their WCHA title? Maybe they should take it down.

See how nutty this whole thing gets? Again why does anyone care about the runner up AAU? And just one last time, the reason the 1929 banner is not in line with the others is because it was awarded. The 1940 banner was for a tournament that we won. Just like all the NCAAs. That is why MN puts in on the same level as an NCAA title. You can say what you want about who played in the AAU and Brock Hall, but the fact remains there was a tournament and we won. In your face, Brock Hall!

I wasn't looking for an ongoing debate when I made the remark. I have clarified my initial remark a few times by saying that I have no problem with you.

I take it back my comments back. Respond to JDUBBS all you like. But please don't come into the Gopher season thread and because he's trashing the Badgers season thread in the future. If he destroys UW's season thread, the rest of the Badger posters can blame you guys.

You're not very good with logic are you? :p:D:D

Minnesota hangs their 1940 AAU Championship Banner with their NCAA Championship Banner, which seems to show that the school values AAU tournaments just as highly as NCAA tournaments. However, while the school has NCAA Tournament runner-up banners, they do not have AAU runner-up banners. From this, it appears quite obvious that they don't hold the AAU tournament in the same regard as the NCAA Tournament (or else they would hang a 1939 runner-up AAU banner along with their NCAA banners). FWIW, I'm actually quite surprised that they don't hang a 1939 AAU runner up banner. It certainly would fit in with their line of thinking.

And it couldn't possibly be a simple oversight?

Sorry, but the fact that the AAU championship is treated the same way as the NCAA championships (but not the 1929 championship) is enough for me.

That's good that it is enough for you, but it certainly lends a lot of credence to those attacking the AAU title as not equivalent to the NCAA title. I'm just trying to help all you Gopher fans out. :p:D:D

I highly doubt it is an oversight, but I suppose it is possible. Perhaps an email to someone with some sway could fix the issue.

We can agree to disagree. I think it's a bit of a reach by people who would like to make the AAU title seem less significant.

But in the end, with me, it's how our school recognizes the 1940 club that matters to me. Petty squabbles between fan bases over championships won is rather adolescent IMO. Yes, I am perplexed that there isn't a 1939 runner-up banner, as I think that squad deserves recognition too. However, I think that has no relevance to the 1940 championship as that banner is displayed the exact same way as the NCAA banners.

I switched points in mid paragraph, so keep up next time and you won't question my logic. Which, as an engineer, can be rather offensive. I went back to talking about the 1929 banner, not the AAU runner up which the first sentence of my post addressed. But fine, I'll address it. You said that AAU data was difficult to find. So where did you find out about 1939? Are there other runner up years? I never looked so I don't know but know you're good at finding stuff like this if it's out there. Maybe an oversight or maybe their banner guy just doesn't know. I have no idea and have thought about this way more then I ever wanted to so it's time to stop. Frankly I've always wondered about the runner up banners. Must have been a Woog thing because he hung a couple of them. Personally I'd like to see a single banner with all the frozen 4 years listed instead. Plus like I said earlier, there will be big 10 banners to deal with shortly.

I like the idea of the one banner with the Frozen Four years listed.

We will have to agree to disagree...as this is all a matter of opinion either way. Minnesota had a great team in 1940, and I agree that they deserve some form of recognition. If I were a Gopher fan, I would want a banner recognizing the undefeated team as opposed to the AAU title (for reasons already hashed out in this thread along with several others).

ADD? :p:D:D (I hope you realize that I'm just giving you a hard time) What type of engineer? My brother worked in Blaine for awhile as an Electrical Engineer. My other brother and I went the law school route.

I'm not sure why Minnesota hangs runner-up banners to be honest. I don't remember if Wisconsin does or not, but North Dakota certainly doesn't hang runner-up banners (only NCAA and Conference titles). I do like how we treat our WCHA Tournament titles, with a single banner on the wall with the years listed (although, the last I was there it had not been updated in awhile). I would think something similar for Frozen Fours would be a good idea.

Yes, I know. I'm not one of those people to take things too seriously here, no matter how it looks. :) But it's my mission to make you feel guilty when I don't see an opportunity to take a cheap shot. So my work is done.

EEs are in a world of their own. Took my one class in college and ran screaming when it was over. I'm a degreed mechanical engineer with a current title of manufacturing engineer, working in the backwoods of WI. I live in the southeast metro, so Blaine would be pretty tough of a commute. Which is too bad because most of the good engineering jobs are on the west side of the metro. Wish I would have known that when I graduated. Oops.

You aren't looking for an ongoing debate, yet you keep posting about it. Now who does that remind me of?

And blame what guys? He's been in our thread since he first signed on here (as have you). We didn't provoke him, he found us all on his own and since he's going to do it anyway, I'll respond to him wherever, and however I want.

I'll definitely respect your authority over the Gopher thread though and stay out. Because you told me to, not because that's how I've always been around here.

Thanks for the advice noob. :p

It's simple MN nice. MNSoH is trying to help. Unfortunately most in the evil state to our east are beyond help. *tragic sigh* And you can't say that you'll stay out of the Gopher thread when I already called you on it and you admitted it. Granted the circumstances of this one instance were explained, but still a violation of your own rules. Busted!

mnstateofhockey - gotta chuckle a little because I think you mentioned your reservations about this place on twitter. You were more right then you knew.

-Sigh-

Nobody's saying that anyone has to stay out of other team's threads. Plenty of people post funny or derogatory things in other teams' threads, but they don't constantly start stupid p-i-s-s-i-n-g matches over the same type of subject and then keep posting saying that they'll stop if only everyone else does. If he was at least funny or witty (or a hot chick), it'd be slightly more tolerable.

I would guess (guarantee) that at some future time, I will post something in a Gopher related thread that some Gopher fans will not find as witty as I do. It's like the story of the scorpion and the frog...

My restraint until that time will have nothing to do with "my own rules" or my new friend's advice. I just don't make a habit of mindless constant trolling.

Like I said, a certain poster is beyond the ability to change, so I will engage him whenever and however I choose. Maybe I'm sick, but it passes the time until I move on to something else. :o

Oh yeah, and this place is great. By far my favorite board. :)
