Re: MN Golden Gophers @ UND Sioux: Arrogant vs Offensive!

I just thought I'd throw these little pieces of information out there....

In the 266 matchups between the Sioux and the Gophers, only 6 games separate the two teams, with the Gophers holding a 130-124-12 edge on the Sioux.

The average score is 3.466 to 3.462.

In the 266 matchups, only 1 goal separates the two teams. The Sioux have scored 922 goals, while the Gophers have scored 921.

No matter what team you root for, this is the type of rivalry that makes this sport so great to watch. I can't wait for the game. Good luck to both schools and let the better team win. :p:D:D
It's 137-124-12.

Interesting stats.

Re: MN Golden Gophers @ UND Sioux: Arrogant vs Offensive!

If you're going to count club games you might as well throw in the 8th that was played between the two teams. :p:D:D

Gopher fans are starting to get very insecure about their all-time series lead

EDIT: You also might want to have someone "fix" the information on wikipedia

I pulled it right from the Minnesota notes for this week.

brian, given it's taken this long to make it even this close, we're not worried. :D

I pulled it right from the Minnesota notes for this week.

Must have been one of the '97 Gopher BBall players writing them up then.

There were 8 games that Minnesota typically counts that North Dakota doesn't. They were all games with Minnesota's varsity team against a coachless club team from Grand Forks.

The first season of varsity North Dakota Hockey was '46-'47, with the first Gopher-Sioux game being in 1948. The Sioux won 5-3 for those who were wondering.

I'm sure if UND does make it closer, the Gophers will just find some other games to include in their favor. Like the games they played against the Bisbee, ND Shriners in 1939.

Fair enough.

You still lost them, so count them. I am sure you would count them if you won, but if you want to be a weasel, go ahead. heck, we didn't have our head coach at last years games, either, so take those of the list.

Re: MN Golden Gophers @ UND Sioux: Arrogant vs Offensive!

I think this is something everyone here can agree upon.

Dirty and I......agreeing??!!! During UND/MN week??!?!??!?!

Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.

No, we will just toss out the hundred of games that professional players from Canada played for UND.

Here's something that might be interesting to you...

SUMMARY OF SERIES LEAD HOLDER:
North Dakota: 1948-1954
Minnesota: 1954-1960
North Dakota: 1960-1979
Minnesota: 1979
North Dakota: 1979-1983
Minnesota: 1983-1987
North Dakota: 1987
Minnesota: 1987-present

North Dakota held a share of, or the outright all-time series lead from 1948 through 1954. The Gophers then held a share of, or the outright all-time series lead from 1954 through 1960 when North Dakota gained the lead back. The Sioux held a share of, or the outright all-time series lead from 1960-1979. The Gophers briefly took control of the outright lead (or share of) in 1979, but Sioux took it back from the Gophers in Dec. of 1979. They held the outright or share of the lead from 1979-1983. The Gophers then held the lead from 1983-1987, until the Sioux briefly held the series lead from March 1987-October 1987. Since 1987, the Gophers have held the overall series lead, and in 1996 once held a 19 game advantage over the Sioux (the largest in the series). In the last 11 games, the Sioux hold an 8-2-1 advantage. If that pace keeps up, the Sioux will take the overall series lead at somepoint in the next 2-4 seasons.

Anything you can do. It's great how Minnesota is the only school who whines about this. Any excuse you can come up with for losing.

Woog owned the Sioux.
