Bitter, party of one. Bitter..... :p ;)
I think its very difficult for NCAA football programs that share cities with NFL teams to stay relevant and draw the money needed to compete at the top level..

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Everything is great. Rose Bowl this year, NCAA Final Four, Frozen Four, you name it's all coming.

Jesus christ man...take some joy out of life. I know life sucks because your best friends got fired after posting a robust 6 wins in the softball season but lighten up you are like 2 steps away from having your shoelaces taken away! ;)

And if Tubby Smith is on a short leash Bakukin it is time to shut er down. My lord he has made the NCAAs the last two years. As for his questionable recruiting, can you imagine the flack he would have gotten had he not recruited Royce White, a five star athlete from MN? He would have been tarred and feathered. Mbakwe I dont know enough about (whether his legal issues came to light before or after he officially transfered...plus he is one of us so you know they had to bring him in or the locals would have thrown a hissy)

I will never get the fans in this town...it is like the only way they feel justified is if their team wins it all so the rest of the country has to acknowledge them. Well except the Twins, they are plucky so they get a pass :D

Tubby's on a short leash because everything is just wonderful. The "U" losing another million dollars + is all peaches and cream. The Basketball team being in the "A" section of the newspaper all season is considered as wonderful as sugar plums dancing in your head.

Whatever...enjoy living in your sad, ****ed off little world. Everything and everyone sucks...except the Softball Coaches THEY ARE THE BEST!!!11

I am done with this...

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Merely making the NCAA's doesn't mean the program is good. The team is basically a middle tier B10 team that wins just enough games to make the dance. That's not really worth getting excited about, is it? It's certainly not good enough to give Smith a free pass on costing the school over a million in a civil judgment plus whatever it cost to litigate the *'ing thing.

Re: Maturi having little control / being a figurehead - if Maturi has very little power or control, why have an AD in the first place? Strangely, I seem to remember "lack of institutional control" mentioned by the NCAA during the Haskins scandal investigation. If the U learned anything from that, Maturi would be anything but powerless right now.

I know Handy's done, but seriously your point is correct and well founded. It's been all over radio the past week.

Unless (cue tinfoil hat) he's just a figurehead that has to get the okay from a ton of people before he says anything. Something along the lines to keep appearances up.

I'm undecided on the whole Maturi thing. Big name coaches? Check. Appearances to turn certain programs around? Check (at least on the surface). Results? Blech.

As for the MN hockey program, tDon either REALLY has control of what he does with this team (see: Hill), or Maturi is too chickensh* to lay the law down.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

No you aren't.

No you're not? No you'ren't?

I am done arguing with Scooby over it so yes I am :)

I will never be done mocking the fans around here...the inferiority complex in flyover country is beyond hilarious! Plus the Monday Morning Quarterbacking is always a treat ;)

And hey I do it too...but I can actually enjoy the sports I watch when the team doesn't win the big prize :p

I keep hearing from people on campus coach Hill is a major problem. Many of them want to see him go.

If that is the case and tDon says he is my guy, when is it time to lay down the law? Before or after Lucia gets his walking papers?

I would hope it has already been done...meaning that tDon decided already to sink or swim.

Most of us can do that. However, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find people who enjoyed watching last season's hockey team.

There were rare moments. For the most part it was painful to be in chat on GPL and announce yet another puck sailing over the crossbar or missing right or left by 3 feet or so. :(

I enjoyed the press releases where Lucia insisted that the team could not score more than two goals and if Kangas allowed two goals/game he had a decent game.

They're located in Madison. And Duluth. And Grand Forks. And Mankato. And Denver. You get the picture... :D

And Juneau....WI. Too bad the BADgers embarrassed themselves in a couple games last year against the rodents. Those games were probabaly the highlights of your season.
