What do you think All-Star games have always been?

I know back in the day the All Star Selection was run by like some furniture polish company.

But this was amazing:

When did the winner of the All Star Game gets home filed advantage in the World Series stop? I liked when they did that. Made the game mean a little something.

But it shouldn't mean anything concrete. It is and always has been a fun little exhibition game. It didn't grow to its importance because it had any material effect on the real season. But one year the fun little exhibition game ended in a tie, because they had already played everyone, because that's what everyone is there to see, all of the favorites play in one game, and everyone lost their minds.

The 2002 ASG still makes me sad. New home of the Brewers, Selig handed the reigns of the Brewers to his daughter, "hometown" commissioner, and then that farce of a "well everyone gets to pitch" and they're all out of pitchers.

They should have just allowed a couple pitchers to re-enter (or allow already subbed out position players to pitch). Ending in a tie was the dumbest thing ever.
