Kershaw dropping out of the WBC. Says it isn't due to an injury and that it "just didn't work out" but that's an odd reason when you had to voluntarily commit in the first place.

Edit: I missed the first part of the bottom line update. He couldn't get insurance to cover him.

Wait, how else is he supposed to get put on the IR until August so his arm will be fresh for the postseason? The old fashioned way via a freak spring training injury?
 
Star third baseman Manny Machado and the Padres are finalizing an 11-year, $350 million contract extension, sources familiar with the deal told ESPN.
The deal is the fourth-largest guarantee in the game's history, behind those for Judge, Trout, and Betts.
