MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

Angels have recommended Tommy John surgery for Ohtani.

F

My feeling is that he is better off being a pitcher or a position player rather than both. He has been in and out of the lineup due to injuries. It’s great he can do both but I think it has a cost and now you can see why I would not have him play both positions.

With the salary the Angels are paying him it is not cost effective if he is constantly in and out and now it looks like he might be out a year at least with Tommy John surgery.

Holy **** Trevor Story just hit a 505 foot BOMB

(unrelated side note, but Gary Sanchez just had the worst defensive inning for a catcher I have ever seen)

In a potential Wild Card Game preview, the A's take 2 of 3 from the Yankees in Oakland. Could've swept if we had some offense yesterday and Familia didn't decide to become Santiago Casilla, but that's baseball

Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

Is BOMB a trigger word?

no (especially because "trigger words" aren't a thing and the way it's been co-opted as a joke/meme is actively hurting people with anxiety/PTSD/etc as it has stripped them of their vocabulary) and it's very clear you don't know how the hell triggers work so it's not worth my time expanding on :)

Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

I know how triggers work. I pull the trigger when my crosshairs, or bead is on target, and the gun fires. The deer dies, or the clay breaks. Its really quite simple.

FWIW, I believe it was the longest home run ever hit at Coors Field.

Also, I know a lot of people have a bias against the Rockies' hitters due to Coors Field. For those of you who feel that way, should we just give the Cy Young to Kyle Freeland right now?

He hit a ball 505ft. That doesn't impress you? Does it need to go 600 feet cuz it's at Coors?
While Story's average distance does lead the mlb at 415 feet, that's only one foot longer than Acuna Jr.'s average of 414 feet.
If Coors makes that much of a difference in 2018 Storys average should be 15-20 feet longer than the second place guy. Not one foot

I really don't care one way or another, but that logic is very flawed.

The A's just scored ten runs in the third inning against Baltimore. 15 plate appearances. Two hits each for Nick Martini, Jonathan Lucroy, and Matt Chapman (who had RBIs on both hits).

And not a shiat was given. Seriously, you're bragging about beating up on a team that's 41-104?

Not really bragging, ten-run innings aren't a very frequent occurrence. Especially when you consider we had seven runs in the inning before the O's had even made an out.

The weirdest part might be that that was our entire scoring tonight. 10 runs in the third, nothing in the other eight innings...weird.

Oh yeah, and we're a game back of the Yankees for WC1 now...with our soft remaining schedule (okay, the Rays are on fire, but the NYY also play them; the Twins and Angels are below .500 and the Mariners have been in a death spiral since June) there's a decent chance the wild card game will be in Oakland.

Not bad for a team whose rotation from Opening Day looks like this right now:

out from Tommy John (Graveman)
out from shoulder surgery (Manaea)
out since May with nerve problems, shut down for season (Triggs)
in the bullpen (Mengden...technically, since we use an opener for him)
out from Tommy John (Gossett)

Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

Far more significant was the Twins no-hitting the Yankees until mid-8th inning.

Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

I'm rooting for the Astros, but wouldn't mind seeing the A's finally break through in the playoffs.
