Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

A's beat the Astros 7-1 and are now tied with Houston for the AL West!!!

Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

Yeah, no one cares.

You cared enough to comment.

I do think it is quite significant that a team that many projected to lose 85-90 games this year (BR had us at 72-90, RotoChamp at 77-85, USA Today at 74-88) is tied for first with the defending World Champs on August 18 with a 74-49 record, no big names (though Matt Chapman *is* 5th in fWAR, only behind Jose Ramirez, Mookie, Trout, and Lindor...) and a ragtag rotation that's basically Sean Manaea and a bunch of journeymen because everyone else needed Tommy John

Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

So, the team I mentioned in the title of this thread... they won't even make it to the first round, denying me the pleasure of watching them get swept in the first round.

Drunk and bored is not the same as caring.

The Giants. After showing a little life last week by going into LA and taking 2 of 3 from the dodgers they head to Cincinnati and get swept by a 3 game aggregate of 20-6.

The NL West is a scam this year. All of the teams try for a little and then back off. The winner will be 82-80 and everyone will end within 5 games.

Meanwhile the A's have 1/4 the payroll and actually try.

Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

On the Tweeter machine, someone put up a graph of every total score of every MLB game in history. I dunno how to link here from Tweeter, but I'm sure some of you do. I did post it on FB and GPL, and re-tweeted it. The graph is amazing. Some of the scores that happened once or twice, and some scores that never happened at all, despite the thousands of games played.

Note: the 49-33 game, the "lone outlier" so to speak, happened in 1871.

This year's A's have been the most fun I've had following a sports team - and that includes the UVM basketball team that went 19-0 in conference two years ago.

It's worth watching us just to watch Matt Chapman do some crazy stuff defensively at 3B.

Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

Before last night's game against Texas, Khris Davis had a Make-A-Wish kid sign his jersey...then he goes out and hits a 440 foot bomb off the suites. What a guy

Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

Given the Twins are at home, have sold off all their assets, and are out of contention. I expect they'll sweep the 4 game Oakland series. Because Twins!

Power went out at Dodger Stadium, and Twitter went for the easy lay-up.

The Marlins are now allowing musical instruments in their stadium.

A's have been doing it for years (there are drummers in the bleacher seats) and it's become a huge part of our culture. So much so that when we played the Giants at AT&T they let us bring in drums and horns because they understand its significance
