Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

The Marlins are now allowing musical instruments in their stadium.

Would like to see a Japanese style band/cheering section in the US. Those guys are nuts.

(You know how all the old NES/SNES baseball games had those weird fight songs with the drumming/whistling during at bats? That's actually what a game sounds like in Japan.)

I look back at the movie "Mr Baseball" and laugh in amazement at how far ahead Japan was in certain aspects. The fans, the shuuto, the actual players coming over to play in the MLB...

McCutchen to the Yankees.

Jays trade Donaldson to the Indians

Shapiro and Atkins have totally F'ed Toronto since coming to town. :(

With several potential suitors in the mix, Jays general manager Ross Atkins figured to be weighing the best offers for a player that it seems clear no longer fit in with the team’s future plans.

The Indians, who are runaway leaders in the AL Central evidently came up with the best offer, though the player coming back has yet to be confirmed. Given that it is a player to be named later, however, the Jays essentially gave one of the best players in baseball away.

The Jays are reportedly sending money to the Indians as well, US$2.7 million of the remainder he is owned which is just less than $4 million.

Joe West happened last night.

Any other umpire on the MLB roster makes the same move to take the card away and this gets no play at all... Joe West does it and everyone loses their sh*t....

Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

Yeah, this is pretty low on the Joe West Anger Card.

Because no other umpire has done it besides Joe West, and I really doubt that was the first pitcher to ever have scouting notes in his pocket.

Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

To be fair to West, he thought it illegal, and is awaiting word from the league, from what I read. I'll give him that: he admits he may have made a mistake.

Nope. If this was a common thing with scouting reports, MLB crews would definitely know about it. This was an unprecedented situation that the crew was forced to rule on. Being the Crew Chief, that responsibility fell on West.

Other players (mainly catchers) will carry scouting info on wrist cards. Pitchers don't carry anything and have the info relayed to them by whatever means. The pitcher actually having the card is something new.

(if there is video out there of other pitchers carrying cards in their pockets, I'll eat crow, but my sources in the umpire community have this as being something new...)

I swear Todd Jones always had notes on him. He's the only one I remember though and that was like 8 years ago.

I've seen outfielders carry cards in their pockets. Why would it be different for pitchers?

edit: <a href="https://twitter.com/PitchingNinja/status/1031314452258467842">Zack Greinke keeps a card in his pocket</a>.

I love how umpires are like cops and protect the bad ones because reasons.

Joe West has earned every bit of his reputation, as has Angel Hernandez.

Re: MLB 2018.1: ...And The Nationals Will Not Make It Out of the First Round

Sale back on DL.

He is the only pitcher that is lights out but Price, Porcello can be up and down. Eduardo is back but Eovaldi, Johnson and Valasquez I would not use in post season as starters.

Amazing they will not have one 20 game winner despite their record.

Jose Abreu had surgery to repair something called testicular torsion.

Ouch....
