Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

Cards take a couple pitching duels in STL and will head to LA up 2-0. No earned runs in today's game.

Also, Puig gets his very own golden sombrero.

The ALCS now has the fun scenario where one path to winning is most likely (BOS in 7), but the other team is favored to win the series.

Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

Lug-These stats are fascinating-but do they take into consideration who is scheduled to pitch in any game? And if they do, how do they consider some hotshot rookie that we have little or no previous stats on? Probably could work out something for seasoned pitchers like Wainright going Monday for StL-but how can anyone predict what a Wacha will do? If the numbers are based on his last 3 starts(including his almost no hitter against Washington) then the number might indicate he would never lose again. Somehow i do not think that hings will go so smoothly for Stl out in LA for the next few games(although fingers are crossed here that they do). Long long time Cardianl fan ever since Musial handed me his bat after a double header in Brooklyn against the Dodgers in 1954.

Edit; Why do the numbers seem to indicate that the NL has the slight edge in the WS? The AL has home field advantage and the use of the DH for an extra game if need be this year. Should that not shift the odds slightly?

Because the two remaining NL teams are somewhat better than the two remaining AL teams? Obvious answer is obvious.

The Red Sox have been favored to win the World Series all along until the Cards took game 1 of the NLCS when the odds shifted. Now the strongest team in the field (Boston at 150.5) is a game behind and no longer statistically favored to win its series and the Cardinals are up 2 games to none in their series.

Now that makes perfect sense to me. Thank you. I am assuming that the odds makers feel that Detroit does not make as strong a candidate for the AL against EITHER NL team.

At the moment, the Tigers would be favored against the Dodgers. However, one must also factor in that for the Dodgers to be in the World Series they will have to defeat the heavily favored Cardinals four times, which by definition will increase their number (currently only 122.1) and make the odds much more even.

To answer an earlier question, I believe lugnut said at the beginning that these odds do not take into account home-field advantage, starting pitchers, injuries, etc.
