This could also refer to:

- those who have had no rooting interest in the playoffs and are rooting for an earthquake at this point
- those whose team is in the World Series, but they can't possibly be happy about it

I get why everyone hates Boston but why the hatred for St Louis I'm seeing on twitter and in the blogosphere? What did the Cardinals do to **** everyone off?

They're good. They're the Yankees (in terms of success) of the NL.

I hate them solely because they're always there. But they're a model franchise who does things the right way.

The Cardinals would CERTAINLY never show disrespect to an opponent by celebrating something they did. ummm, oh wait... they do. Just like every other team. But when the CARDINALS do it, it's fine.

I think the Cardinals fans are kind of like the Lakers, Canadiens, Leafs, Packers, Steelers and Cowboys where they have a fan base that's bigger than the city that they root for, but they're also the most popular team in the city.
And there's a level of pomposity that it's even more irritating to midwesterners than certain Red Sox fans describing Fenway as a "cathedral" or a "lyrical bandbox". Ugh.
They also win all the time.

This couldn't be more true. It saddens me how the Blues are basically an afterthought for the month of October while the Birds have their run (not that I want the run to end). Maybe if they can finally get a Cup, they'll get a little more support (like the Rams did in the early 00s), but I don't see STL being anything other than a baseball town any time soon.

I feel like it's that way with a lot of cities except maybe New York (where I think the entire city would gladly embrace the Knicks if they every won another title) and Boston (the Bruins owned the town in the 70's, the Celtics in the 80's, the Sox in the 90's, the Pats in the 2000's) and maybe Chicago (but I feel like the Bears are secretly the most popular team in town)... Meh.

My guess is that they just win a lot. People don't like that sometimes. I am one of those bewildered by the hatred.

Not talking about how the celebrate or carry themselves. But how they build and develop talent.

I agree the call was wrong but man they made the call and to change it.. that's tough to live with when it costs you. I think the cards are finding out just how tough it is to play at fenway.
BTW the best baseball town in the country is St Louis, no question. Maybe because they don't have a ton of other sports to worry about.

I'd say it is because of the extensive great history of the Cardinals. I'm of the theory that the team that wins the most in a certain market and has been around longer generally has more fans and a more intense following.

That was one of the most ridiculous things i've ever seen in baseball or any sport. I don't know what is more baffling, that the umpire got the call wrong or that the umpires decided to arbitrarily change the rules and reverse it. If I was a cardinal fan I would be absolutely livid.
