MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

Re: MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

Dumb question. Why the New Era hate?

Honestly, for me at least, it seems to be quite popular among the "Gangbanger" crowd here in the Chicago area... It's just a look that I don't like... PERIOD... Just run across way too many "Suburban Gangsters" since high school to hold any kind of respect for anyone that associates with that scene...

I don't get the New Era hate for the reasons RaceBoarder mentioned, since in addition to ugly hats like these, they also make the authentic 59Fifty that MLB teams wear in games and IMO it's tough to argue with a lot of teams' basic designs, but personally I find the sizing of their fitted hats to be so irregular that shopping for them is a huge pain.

Re: MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

Zephyr or go to hell for me. I can't remember the last non-Zephyr I bought. Maybe the Twins hat from about 8 years ago.

Re: MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

Some Zephyr styles are pretty ugly too, but they're true to size and really durable. 8-10 years ago, some friends and I got the Cornell store to order a custom run of fitted Cornell hockey hats, and the one I bought is still in great shape and one of my favorites to wear.

Re: MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

I don't think any hat maker is immune from those hideous styles. Zephyr just makes a fine hat.

Re: MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

I prefer the on the field look of New Era. They are made so well and look better than other brands IMO. Remember though, when the caps are not bent it's because the person hasn't bent them. You can make them bent like any Zepher hat...you just have to break them in.

i just love '47 brand, i prefer a low crown and their XL fits like a glove.

Ahh yes, sometimes the crown can be too high.

I could probably go on for hours on the subjects of hats...always have to wear one.

For Frozen Four attendees interested in seeing a Pirates game on Friday April 12th, be aware that Pirates single game tickets are already on sale. I wouldn't be too worried about the game selling out (they play a series at home against the Cubs the week before, and, I mean, it's the Pirates), but since it's the only game that will work for most of us (road game Wednesday, no game Thursday, Saturday night game at the same time as the National Championship game, Sunday afternoon probably after most people are on their way home), it might be worth planning for in advance. And, tickets are cheap compared to a lot of other teams ($38 will get you a lower infield box) and their website lets you pick specific seats if you want.

Actually Pirates attendance is improved now due to having better seasons (well half seasons) the last 2 years. and tickets can become painful to get. Especially if they have a promotion on that date.

They do, but it's a painfully ugly t-shirt.

MLB is selling a $25 pre-season package where you can watch 150(+) spring training games. I don't know if that is "instead" of the regular package available in February for $129 (or something close to that), or in addition to.

I don't recall last year if pre-season games were included. I thought they were.

Re: MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

The World Baseball Classic provisional roster for Team USA has been released. A lot of big names, but that doesn't guarantee wins in these tournaments. MLB Story

Mark Teixeira 1B Yankees
Brandon Phillips 2B Reds
Jimmy Rollins SS Phillies
David Wright 3B Mets
Joe Mauer C Twins
Ryan Braun LF Brewers
Adam Jones CF Orioles
Giancarlo Stanton RF Marlins
Ben Zobrist INF Rays
Willie Bloomquist INF D-backs
Shane Victorino OF Red Sox
Jonathan Lucroy C Brewers
J.P. Arencibia C Blue Jays
R.A. Dickey SP Blue Jays
Ryan Vogelsong SP Giants
Derek Holland SP Rangers
Kris Medlen SP Braves
Craig Kimbrel RP Braves
Heath Bell RP D-backs
Chris Perez RP Indians
Vinnie Pestano RP Indians
Luke Gregerson RP Padres
Glen Perkins RP Twins
Steve Cishek RP Marlins
Jeremy Affeldt RP Giants
Tim Collins RP Royals
Mitchell Boggs RP Cardinal

Also, keep in mind the pitching limitations when looking at the list.

Starters are restricted to 65 pitches in the first round, 80 in the second and 95 in the semifinals and finals. A starter must take four days off if he throws more than 50 pitches.

Relievers can pitch on back-to-back days if they don't exceed 30 pitches the first day. Throw 30 in a game and you must take one off. After back-to-back appearances, regardless of pitch counts, pitchers must get a day off.

The Red Sox signed Mike Napoli (finally) to a 1-year, $5M contract (quite a drop from the 3yr-$39M originally reported). No word yet on how this will impact their sex appeal...
