MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

Re: MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

Pavano ruptured his spleen... shoveling snow. You can't make his injury list up. Out 6-8 weeks.

I read a good one about this....the man has made over $70m in his career why in heck is he doing his own shoveling?? Can't he find a neighborhood kid to do that for him? ;)

I"m confused by the logistics of that. How do you rupture your spleen when shoveling snow? Should there be warning labels on shovels that they may result in spleen injuries?

and that is so going to be my fantasy team name next year.

Have seen it happen with the most minor of insults. Once had a fellow come into the ER saying he felt severe pain in the left upper quadrant of his belly after a severe bout of sneezing. Ended up in the OR that night and had a splenectomy. I always doubted his story but now I'm not so sure.

Northwestern and the Cubs have a "major business announcement" coming Tuesday. Wrigley is supposed to be getting renovations, so this is either an announcement for more NU football games at Wrigley or the Cubs may be using Ryan Field as a home stadium.

From the Chicago Trib:
http://articles.chicagotribune.com/..._nu-football-illinois-nu-nu-athletic-director
A university source told the Tribune that while Wrigley will not be host to a football game in 2013, other NU teams (baseball, softball, soccer and lacrosse) might play some there this year.

From the sounds of it, it's just added revenue to Wrigley to help offset costs. No way would the Cubs play games at Ryan Field, since depending on the layout, hits to right or left would be automatic ground rule doubles due to the short distances. Every article I've seen regarding Wrigley's renovation is that the Cubs refuse to find an alternate home for a year or two. They won't even share US Cellular with the Sox.

Re: MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

Are they going to rush renovations during the off-season then, or just play in a stadium that's under construction?

I think Ryan Braun's got another problem...

Link
The Yahoo Sports link from Deadspin:
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ryan-braun-s-name-listed-in-biogenesis-clinic-records-235650670.html

Braun is on a list that includes Alex Rodriguez, Melky Cabrera and Cesar Carrillo, who the New Times reported received PEDs from Bosch. Also on the list are New York Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli and Baltimore Orioles third baseman Danny Valencia, who weren't listed near PEDs either. The record matches a document the New Times posted with Braun's name redacted and Cervelli and Valencia's cut off.

...

Why Braun's name was sandwiched among three alleged users' was not explained by his statement. He referenced his presence on another document, which lists his name along with "RB 20-30K" – explained by Braun's statement as "a dispute over compensation for Bosch's work." Later in the document are multiple mentions of Chris Lyons, one of Braun's attorneys during the 2011-12 offseason when he fought the positive test. When reached by Yahoo! Sports on Tuesday evening, Lyons declined comment. David Cornwell, another of Braun's attorney's, has worked with baseball and football players facing suspensions for PEDs.

"During the course of preparing for my successful appeal last year, my attorneys, who were previously familiar with Tony Bosch, used him as a consultant," Braun said. "More specifically, he answered questions about [testosterone-to-epitestosterone] ratio and possibilities of tampering with samples."

So he wasn't listed by a PED. Could have just been on the list because he used the doctor in his case last year?

If he's been juicing, then he's been doing it since college, since his stats are very similar every year. Which doesn't make sense because he's been tested consistently since his MiLB days. Unless whatever he's had was so good no one knew what it was for eight years.

I was hoping he'd be another Chipper Jones/Ken Griffey Jr./Robin Yount... but... :(

Seriously though, he's injured way too often to be juicing.

Re: MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

There's enough reason to think that we shouldn't jump to conclusions on Braun.

On the other hand, as a friend of mine so eloquently said: You can keep telling me you dont go to a strip club but eventually you are either lying or you just like being covered in crappy perfume and glitter.
