So the Miami Marlins uniforms are goofy looking, but they seem like they will have a damn good squad next year. Especially if they can add C.J. Wilson. They have a ton of big names.

Hanley Ramirez
Jose Reyes
Mike Stanton
Josh Johnson
Mark Beuhrle
Health Bell

I think both the Angels and Pujols are making a mistake. 10-years/$250 mil.

Why not just stay in StL for $220 mil or whatever they were offering? Where's Latrell Spreewell to tell me he needs to feed his family?

Re: MLB 2011 Post-Season: Who misses the NBA?

I wish I could have $250 mil mistakes.

Oh well, I have no problem with Pujols not taking on a single-team legacy. I also have no issue with the Cardinals getting shafted.

I think LaRussa retiring ruined most of the St. Louis advantage. And $250 million is a lot to pay for 3-5 years of productive baseball.

Obviously I'm not him, but I agree with you here...

It's alright, the Rangers keep winning the AL west and the wild card keeps going to the AL east. Pujols doesn't get another ring.

Hanley Ramirez
Jose Reyes

Having Reyes means they'll either trade Ramirez or watch while he pouts and dogs it all season.

Eventually everybody will make the playoffs.

I've started to think baseball should end the regular season at the all-star break, then start a 3 1/2 month long playoff run involving everyone, utilizing best-of-11 or so series.

I agree one hundred percent.

Ok, seriously guys? The last # I heard from the Cards was 10/210. 10/250-260 is literally a 25% raise. He's an idiot if he goes back to St. Louis for $40-50 million less, and for a 10 year deal, he probably should have been considering only AL teams to start with.

Staying "home" for $10 million over 10 years? Sure. $50 million over 10? Where's the Uhaul?

The last report said the Cards were just under $200 million. So that makes more sense then if it was 250 vs 220.

However the value difference is negligible after taxes at 250/220. If he took home 60% it would be 15/13.2 mil a year. If he took home 50% its 12.5/11 mil a year.

When you're making $57.5k per DAY for the next ten years...whats another 10k?

Re: MLB 2011 Post-Season: Who misses the NBA?

The winner here may actually be the St Louis Cardinals. They had arguably the best player in baseball for what may turn out to be his best 11 years-at a price far below what others were being paid. Now he is leaving for the big payday-and the Cardinals can use the money they would have had to pay him in his declining years, for a whole bunch of talent to restock their team. Everything will depend on how wisely they use this saved money.

Re: MLB 2011 Post-Season: Who misses the NBA?

Reports saying he was re-tested after receiving the results and tested negative.
Tony LaRussa thinks that the re-test is total bush-league behavior by Braun, and will be writing a detailed letter to Bud Selig about it.

All kidding aside: I'm banking on the initial test being faulty and the retest story exonerating him, otherwise I am astounded and dismayed by this.

Re: MLB 2011 Post-Season: Who misses the NBA?

Retest the original (I would assume they pull two samples at the time of testing)... Or if he is going in now after a gap in time to cycle out his system that is suspect. There will always be false positives, but that's why you get a few samples.
