You guys have been talking about xFIP for three pages. You're all dorks and no one cares about what you have to say. :)

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

I can understand how some people can get defensive about baseball regarding the stat thing... It's the same perspective I have as an umpire.... I know the rulebook cover to cover... I know what an umpire has to cover on a given play... I recognize almost all of the MLB Crews and have several favorites that I keep tabs on throughout the season... It's an aspect of the game that I have spent a ton of time learning and perfecting through my own experience... Same thing that the stats people do when they pour over line after line of numbers.... Both cases, it's an area where many "Everyday" fans know the basics, but when it comes down to it, the masses don't have a clue about all the little intricacies and nuances that are involved... Despite this, many will claim to "know the game" based on what ESPN or Fox Sports Whatever tells them... That is where many people will get defensive... I know I do it whenever discussion comes up over a missed call... I would imagine that it's quite similar to what the "Stat Geeks" go through...

MLB announces new Home Run Derby process. Two captains (Prince Fielder and David Ortiz) were named, and they select 3 players each - not necessarily all stars. In addition to crowning the Derby champ, the winning league gets a donation to a charity of their choice.

I like all the festivites and the HR Derby more than the actual game. All Star selection show is on Sunday on TBS.

Despite not always having the contestants I want or expect to see I love the HR derby. When the ASG comes to Target Field I will be doing whatever I can to at least go to that one event.

The ASG itself is fine. Sometimes you get cool moments. Ripkens HR, Hunters wall catch, Puckett wins MVP, etc.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

From rubber checks to the rubber room:

By filing for bankruptcy earlier this week, the Los Angeles Dodgers and embattled owner Frank McCourt hoped to take the first step toward keeping the franchise out of Major League Baseball’s control.

Days later, a number of part-time employees at Dodger Stadium went unpaid when their checks from the organization bounced.

The Dodgers said the checks bounced because the team’s account was frozen for 48 hours, and not because the team could not cover the expenses. Team spokesman Josh Rawitzh said those paychecks were reiussed Wednesday.

Count this minor glitch as the latest infraction in a series of major missteps by the Dodgers in the McCourt era.

Mike Scioscia’s Tragic Illness took the trouble to list the “collected sins” committed under McCourt’s watch.

Those included:

#20 - Asked for nearly $500k per month in spousal support, including flowers, hair and makeup, free tickets to all NL games, and access to a private jet.

#42 - Announced sham divores settlement that was not only untenable because it depended entirely on Selig’s unlikely approval of Fox deal, but confirmed that $173.5m would actually go for personal use.

And first and foremost...

#1 - Purchased Dodgers almost entirely on debt.

Too bad Tom Hagen is not around to pay him a visit.

really? why Braun instead of Fielder? Both are having great years, but I've seen people mention Fielder a lot more.

Braun adds the speed element (I believe he has over 15 steals). I think that sometimes is underrated in MVP balloting.

Time to stock up on canned goods and head for the bomb shelter. The Pirates are .5 out of first.

Jose Bautista says you need to have your head examined. :p

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Clemens trial should be interesting from the perspective of how much time and money goes into something that should be handled in other manners. I personally think he used steroids and was stupid to go before congress...because they invented cheating and lying so they are apt to identify it.
