Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Are you kidding? It looked like a couple of girls slap fighting - no wait, that's an insult to girls.

No, he was throwing legit blows. He JUST missed a left hook that would have probably killed the guy. 0:18 or so.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Looking forward to the HR Derby tonight.

AL: Ortiz, A Gonzalez, Bautista, Cano
NL: Fielder, Weeks, Holliday, Kemp

Lots of talk on ESPN last night about all the players that were voted in and are NOT going. I agree with Bobby Valentine that unless guys are hurt, they should be there if the fans voted them in. Don't make up some lame excuse about "rest" when you've been well enough to play every day. They only have to play 3 innings. Even if they're not going to play, they should still be at the events.

I don't see any reason to waste time watching this. I couldn't care less about the AL East HR team. Just looking at those players, it is obvious that this new format is a complete failure.

The homerun derby has always sucked, it's not particularly suckier now.

I'm not sure how its a failure. A lot of guys don't want to be in the derby to start with. So getting top HR hitters is a task.

Ortiz 7th in HR
Gonzalez 10th in HR
Bautista 1st in HR
Cano 14th in HR

Of the other top 15 HR hitters in the AL, 5 more (9 total) are in the AL East. So that was bound to be the majority of players anyways.

Fielder 2nd in HR
Kemp 3rd in HR
Weeks 9th in HR
Holliday 20th in HR

Holliday is the only outlier and he is a proven power guy.

and if they just wanted to pick the top 8 HR guys, they wouldn't have changed the format. It's for charity and entertainment.

I'd love to see more of a skills contest, but I don't know what they could do.

It'd be hard to come up with things that wouldn't have a higher potential for injury.

although I'm pretty sure Weeks would smoke that field in an inside-the-park HR derby. :)

To steal from the NHL's -

Fastest around the base paths
Fastest pitch
Most accurate throw from the outfield on the fly or on one bounce (put a target at home plate)
Longest game of pepper
Most accurate bunter (6 pitches, 3 zones - straight down each line and the gap between pitcher and catcher)

Forget that. Just show more celebrity softball games with Erin Andrews and Kate Upton in them.
