Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Well that's odd, when I looked up overachieving in the dictionary today, I saw the 2011 Cleveland Indians were listed as the definition!

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Right now the official Major League Baseball world series film collection is (relatively) dirt cheap on Amazon Gold Box deals.
Father's Day?

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

So MLBN has been playing the 20 Greatest Games of the last 50 years. They have reached the top 3 finally.

#20 - Phillies vs Cubs, May 17, 1979 (23-22 win)
#19 - Marlins vs Giants, Gm 4 2003 NLDS (Rodriguez tags Snow)
#18 - Phillies vs Astros, Gm 5 1980 NLCS (10 innings)
#17 - Red Sox vs Yankees, Gm 4 2004 ALCS (12 innings)
#16 - Tigers vs Twins, AL Tiebreaker 2009 (12 innings)
#15 - Yankees vs Mariners, Gm 5 1995 ALDS (M's 11th Inning Win)
#14 - Phillies vs Blue Jays, Gm 6 1993 WS (Joe Carter)
#13 - Indians vs Marlins, Gm 7 1997 WS (Edgar Renteria)
#12 - Diamondbacks vs Yankees, Gm 4 2001 WS (Mr. November)
#11 - Yankees vs Red Sox, AL Tiebreaker 1978 (Bucky Dent)
#10 - A's vs Dodgers, GM 1 1988 WS (Kirk Gibson)
#9 - Yankees vs Diamondbacks, Gm 7 2001 WS (Luis Gonzalez)
#8 - Red Sox vs Angels, Gm 5 1986 ALCS (Red Sox Rally)
#7 - Marlins vs Cubs, Gm 6 2003 NLCS (Bartman)
#6 - Red Sox vs Yankees, Gm 7 2003 ALCS (Aaron Boone)
#5 - Mets vs Astros, Gm 6 1986 NLCS (16 Innings)
#4 - Braves vs Pirates, Gm 7 1992 NLCS (Sid Bream)

#3 -
#2 -
#1 -

Games I think have a chance to be in the top 3 (1961-2011):

At least one of these two will be in the list.

Braves vs Twins, Gm 6 1991 WS (Puckett HR + Catch)
Braves vs Twins, Gm 7 1991 WS (Jack Morris, 10 innings)

#3 is Red Sox vs Mets, Gm6 1986 WS (Buckner/Wilson)
#2 is Braves vs Twins, Gm7 1991 WS (Morris 10 innings) - Sunday 7 ET MLBN

So let the #1 speculation begin.

I'll stick with Royals vs Cardinals.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

#1 is likely Game 6, 1975 Series, Carleton Fisk's homer in extras to send it to Game 7.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Walk breaks up the perfect game after 7.1 IP. The rest is still in tact for Jaime Garcia.

Edit: Very next batter with a clean single.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Cliff Lee tonight: 7 IP, 16 K's. He got 21 outs, and 16 of them were strikeouts.

Ethier: 30 game streak.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Saw this on another message board. I don't really get it, but I think it fits.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

#3 is Red Sox vs Mets, Gm6 1986 WS (Buckner/Wilson)
#2 is Braves vs Twins, Gm7 1991 WS (Morris 10 innings) - Sunday 7 ET MLBN

So let the #1 speculation begin.

I'll stick with Royals vs Cardinals.

Royals/Cards was a 0-0 pitcher's duel until the 8th, when St Louis scored a single run. Then there was "the call" and the Royals scored 2 to win. They then won Game 7 11-0 as St. Louis collapsed worse than the Lakers yesterday.

Red Sox/Reds was a back-and-forth slugfest with both teams holding, then losing, leads. Fisk's eventual homer was a trademark for baseball telecasts that followed. Game 7 featured the Sox jumping out to a 3-0 lead, with the Reds rallying for the 4-3 win.. I tend to think the MLB Network will want to focus on something positive (Fisk) than something negative (Denkinger) so Red Sox/Reds will probably be #1.
