Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

This could go in the movie thread I guess, but I watched all 3 "When It Was a Game" videos and they were awesome. I really was born in the wrong era, baseball-wise, 1954 (Braves move to Milwaukee) to 1966 (Koufax' last year) would have been ideal for me. Koufax, Mays, Mantle, even Gehrig, all the shots of the old ballparks - very, very cool, especially after reading about a lot of that stuff. I am waiting for the library to get the Ken Burns set on loan for me.

New Sunday Night Baseball team: Hershiser, Valentine and Shulman

I will miss Jon Miller.

Was looking at the 2011 schedule a bit today.

Sept 17-19 Mets @ Braves. I'm going!

Shulman is serviceable I guess. Hershiser seems to know a lot. Valentine is meh. He will be comic relief I think.

Feeble college hockey connection: Dan Shulman went to Western Ontario.

I'll give that team a shot. Bobby V. is an acquired taste. Hershiser seems like a very nice man with a marshmallow for a brain -- but at that he'll be a genius compared with Morgan.

not a Valentine fan either.

Unrelated, I was commenting to my mom that I'm waiting for the Gary Sheffield retirement announcement any day now, and she mentioned Barry Bonds never actually retired (I thought he had, and nobody cared). Has he really not retired when he hasn't played since 2007? His Hall eligibilty doesn't start until he files retirement papers, right?

I just checked Retrosheet, and apparently I saw his second-last home run.

Gary doesn't understand why you think Gary will retire? Gary knows that Gary can still hit the HR!! Heck Gary knows he can still play the field! :D

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

The Padres would not receive any established major league players in the trade, but it's likely the Red Sox would include their top pitching prospect, Casey Kelly, sources have said. Red Sox prospects Anthony Rizzo and Ryan Kalish also have been brought up as possible pieces, sources said.

-not a bad price.

a good steal for boston though still a fairly high price in that they appear to give up their #1, #3, and #6 prospect.. as well as a ptbnl who might also be in their top 10. that said, theo gets 5 more picks in this draft as compensation for beltre, vmart, and lopez (Shrewd pickup) and should reload the farm pretty quickly.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

The Red Sox/Gonzales deal is apparently off.
