Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

I think the Orioles fun is going to come to a crashing halt soon. This is the finish to their season. Apparently the toughest in the majors by record.

Aaaaand, the Mets have gone off the deep end. Last night Frankie Rodriguez was arrested for assaulting his father-in-law in the Mets' family lounge. Wonderful.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

I just find it funny that Lee had better luck with a team that has been God awful (I'll admit that my team has sucked on ice all season) this year, but can't buy a win with the division leading Rangers. He's been totally un-Lee like since he got to Texas.

How so? It's only seven starts, of course, but in those starts starts his K rate and BB rate have been about the same as they was with Seattle, his Hits/9 has gone down a little, the only real difference is that he's given up a couple more HR than you would expect, but even there he's only given up 1 HR in his last 6 starts since giving up 3 in his first, and that'll happen when you move to a hitting-friendly stadium like the Rangers have. He's made some really good starts and just not gotten pitching wins (which are, let's not forget, a stupid statistic) because of lack of run support or poorly-timed run support. (Was he "un-Lee like" when he struck out 13 and walked none in nine innings of one-run ball because the Rangers waited until the tenth to score more then one run of their own?)

And if you take out that first start against the Orioles (which, I know, you can't really do, but for the sake of argument because it was his first game after being traded) and he's been ridiculously dominant. 6 starts averaging over 8 IP per start, 2.40 ERA (if that's your thing), 46 K, 3 BB (and 2 of them intentional!), .560 OPS against. That's absurdly good! You were closer to the truth when you said he just had better luck with the Mariners.

Suspensions from Tuesday's Reds vs. Cardinals brawl:

Johnny Cueto- 7 games
Tony LaRussa- 2 games
Dusty Baker- 2 games

Chris Carpenter, Brandon Phillips, Russ Springer, and Yadier Molina were fined as well.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

A hit by the pitcher (Cole Hamels) is the only blemish on RA Dickey's 1-hitter of the Phillies last night. The Mets are never going to throw a no-hitter. Ever.

How the hell does a knuckleballer throw a one-hitter (that probably should have been a no-hitter)?

I knew the twins should have held onto him.

We have to start bringing "Gen Pop" signs to the game instead of "KRod."

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

Some guy named Bullington on Kansas City is having an Extremely Special day...against the Yankees

ETA: There it went, Marcus Thames walked. Still Very Special.

ETA2: Never mind, apparently wasn't special at all. Heard ESPN say "faced the minimum" and then learned he had 2 hits. I need a drink.

I was going to say something, but I didn't want to ruin your wank fantasy.

Somehow this has gotten even more absurd: Rodriguez will miss the rest of the season with a torn ligament in his thumb stemming from this incident.
