MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

If you watch the play, Jose Reyes is paying no attention at all to Pagan throwing the ball in. He's in la la land. Pagan had thrown it pretty much perfectly to second.

Reyes just didn't seem interested in catching the ball, thinking there was a play at the plate.

What he should have done was run the ball in himself and done it unassisted. He probably could have done that. :)

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Angel Pagan makes a Web Gem in short center, then promptly airmails it over second and somehow the Mets salvage a triple play out of it.

He also had an inside the park home run in the same game. And, as if it needed to be said, we still lost.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Turns out, Nyjer Morgan TACKLED Jose Reyes to prevent him from catching the ball. Great angle today on SNY. Just grabbed Jose and prevented him from moving and catching that ball.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

I realized lackluster was the wrong word as soon as I typed that.

He was certainly decent for a rookie but I thought I remember people expecting more for him.

people just don't mention the pirates...

they need to bring up pedro soon.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

No, I'm sure that helped with the perfect game.

I'm referring to a multipurpose stadium (Raiders play there). One of two left in the majors (soon to be the only one).

Bringing up a topic from weeks ago...

Au contraire sir. You forget the famed Toronto Argonauts who still play in the Sky Dome ;)

I remember going to A's games as a kid before the monstosity that is Mount Davis was constructed. In the era before this massive stadium boom we just went through, the Coliseum was probably one of the nicer venues. That coupled with the quality of the teams meant the A's were consistently drawing well above the league average.

But front office mismanagement in the mid to late 90s, the Raiders, the City of Oakland's neglect, the construction of the Big Phone across the Bay (and the Giants further cementing their status as the Yankees to our Mets, albeit without y'know, winning), and the inescapable fact that the A's play in the smallest two franchise market in baseball, has caught up to the team.

Having seen how screwy Nationals Stadium deal has been first hand, I understand Oakland's reluctance to invest hundreds of millions of dollars to subsidize a billionaire, but the A's are now currently only one of two teams MLB could conceivably move and every year that passes without a deal makes me fear for the future. Luckily they aren't any sexy markets clamoring for a team currently, unlike say the NFL or NHL(Golden Horseshoe 2 not Winnipeg/Ville de Quebec).

Is Lou Piniella not getting laid or something? What is up with the facial hair? I know he is lazy and all, but what the hell?

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

That has officially made the top of the list for the most messed up names in baseball.

1. Angel Pagan
2. Milton Bradley
3. Coco Crisp.

Coco is technically a nickname, btw. But yeah, still funny.:)

And yeah, I know it's pronounced "AHN-hell peh-GAHN."

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Dice-K working on a very special evening against Philly.

Edit: ended with 2 outs in the 8th. A Juan Castro base hit.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Wow. Talk about someone who ought to be yanked out of the game right there on the spot. That is flat-out unprofessional.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

My annual gripe about all-star voting...

Morneau trails Texiera by 140,000 votes.

In 13 fewer plate appearances, morneau has:

6 more runs
33 more hits
6 more doubles
1 more triple
4 more home runs
4 more RBIs
7 more walks
2 fewer strikeouts
0.174 higher AVG
0.170 higher OBP
0.323 higher SLG
0.494 OPS
43 more total bases
11 more extra base hits
7 fewer GIDP

/end pointless rant
