MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

I'm not really into god, but if Liriano no-hit the Yankees this weekend I might start to come around to his way of thinking. :D

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Mat Latos: Worthwhile fantasy pickup?

Hard to tell. His career record is only 7-8 with an era just over 4. Also doesn't look like he strikes out very many people so far in his career. So it makes me think he is not a regular rotation guy yet, but more of a spot starter.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Andrew McCutchen is not bad at baseball.

Today: 5-5, (4 1B, HR), BB, 5 R, 2 RBI, 2 SB

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

The Phillies aren't playing well, they've had injuries. The Mets/Braves/Marlins could all challenge them and end up within that margin.

God Forbid this ends up meaning something.

Even with significantly flawed teams the Mets ended up very close two years in a row in 07 and 08. You honestly don't see any chance this series could matter?

Plus pretend the NL East is tight but no team wins 90 games, I bet those games might effect the wild card too.

But pardon me for looking at history and thinking hey, 3 games might matter!

Who cares about the Blue Jays besides the fact they're going to make a lot less money. :D

This is about the Phillies opponents and the integrity of the schedule.
What makes you think that philadelphia is going to get the money for this one?

Toronto will probably get the gate receipts for this game, which is why they want the game at philly if not in toronto, or else they'll be playing in front of 200 people and getting hosed financially.

MLB is a business first and foremost. Integrity comes second. College sports should be the opposite although anyone following the bcs or d1 basketball can tell you that's not always the case anymore.

Also, philly is 10-6 at home and 10-7 on the road. Toronto is 7-10 at home and 13-6 on the road. So you could be argueing that this is unfair against the phillies. ;)

Getting the last at bat is more important than having the fans cheering you on, just like most coaches would choose to have last change instead of home fans if forced to choose only one. Is it mildly unfair to toronto to not have both? Sure. Would they rather have the money a home crowd brings in or play a 'home game' in a neutral area? Well, you've got your answer to that one already.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Rickey Romero (sp, Tor) just used every cliche in the baseball book in one response to a BBTN question.

- One day at a time
- One pitch at a time
- Go out and battle
- Keep our team in it

 :D

This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Having a great season after a lackluster debut last year.

EDIT: He'll be a Yankee in two years.
lackluster?

as a rookie he hit .286, with 12 HR, 54 RBI, 74 runs and 22 SB... in just over 400 at bats

ON THE PIRATES!

I realized lackluster was the wrong word as soon as I typed that.

He was certainly decent for a rookie but I thought I remember people expecting more for him.

This song makes me hate the Marlins.

The Marlins make me hate the Marlins.

I'm indifferent to the Marlins.

Hanley Ramirez, however, is a spoiled brat.

.

Hanley Ramirez needs to shut up and play baseball. Him saying his manager "doesn't know how to play the game" is up there with Delmon Young complaining about the showers in the minor leagues a few years ago.

These are the same concerns the Red Sox had when he was in AA in Portland.

This isn't to excuse his behavior in any way, but Florida probably isn't a good place for him.

I can't imagine he'd be acting this way on a team with veteran leadership. Would Jeter let him get away with that garbage? Varitek?

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Angel Pagan makes a Web Gem in short center, then promptly airmails it over second and somehow the Mets salvage a triple play out of it.
