Big crowd to see the perfecto.

Catfish Hunter's number aptly in the background.

Teams like the A's in Oakland makes me wonder why we have so many teams. They do not seem like a huge draw. I always seem to see small crowds there. Its them and the Marlins.

The numbers to the right of Hunter's tell you why no one goes to the As games.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

I linked my MLB.TV account to my PS3 finally today. Nice to have the option to watch the games on my TV instead of my PC if I want at no additional cost.

This pretty much makes the Extra Innings package on TV obsolete.

You coulda also just hooked up your PC to your TV, like I do with mine, when I stream Netflix (no PS3/360/etc for me).

I did that, but a) its like 30 feet of cable to run and b) it was a hassle to change games, innings, etc. Plus then the TV was acting like a monitor and I had to adjust the screen size every time.

This just makes it simple, and again its a completely free add-on.

True.

Well they've done things since then, won some pennets in the 80s and 90s. I suppose their stadium has a little bit do with it.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

How do you mean? Are you referring to the football field sized foul territories?
No, I'm sure that helped with the perfect game.

I'm referring to a multipurpose stadium (Raiders play there). One of two left in the majors (soon to be the only one).

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

The A's have needed a new stadium for a long time, and they aren't likely to get one anytime soon either.

I believe there's some issue with the giants or angels that's keeping oakland from getting a new stadium elsewhere, due to teams claiming certain areas as 'theirs'.

When Oakland was successful in the late 90's, they didn't have that much trouble drawing fans; but as that dump of a stadium gets older and the team isn't able to win as much with their tiny payroll, the attendance is going to suffer.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

The renovations that Al Davis demanded didn't do the A's any favors from an aesthetic view, either. They really uglied that stadium up.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Although Oakland's stadium is a dump in the middle of a city that's a dump, the small crowd probably speaks more to how freaking uncomfortable it can get in the Bay Area in May. It's bad enough on the ground -- get 6 stories in the air with the wind whipping around and it feels like an Eagles game in December. You wouldn't believe how cold 65 degrees can feel. Gentle bay breeze my ***.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Cliff Lee did well last night. The M's also protested that reporter from Tacoma that broke the story about Griffey Jr. sleeping. This might be the thing that rallies the Mariners because the AL West is not that good of a division.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Stephen Strasburg has a no-hitter through five innings tonight in his AAA start for Syracuse against Norfolk.

Six strikeouts and just completely overpowering.

I'm guessing they'll pull him though regardless once he gets to his pitch count because it is freezing in Syracuse tonight.

For anyone in New York or you get Time Warner Sports...you can tune in and watch.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Strasburg was pulled after six.

Six K's, 1 walk, 0 hits, 0 runs.

I think half of the stadium just left once Stras didn't come out for the 7th.

Very happy to have Stras sitting on my fantasy team still:cool:

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Wow he is that good. I was wondering if he would be like many other number one pitching prospects.

But the jury is out until he faces major league hitters every week.
