MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Yeah, that was Michael Barrett, I think. The problem is, I think Zambrano's signed long-term, too.

As the Thrashers have shown, there are stupid teams that would be willing to take Zambrano on.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Baltimore immediately comes to mind. As long as Angelos owns that team, they're never going anywhere.

Better yet, trade him to Texas. That way if he pulls his crap down there, Nolan Ryan can come down, put him in a headlock, and beat his ***.

And ESPNews just showed it. 4 times he's blown up with the Cubs.

1. Ejected, arguing balls and strikes on opening day.
2. Didn't read it in time
3. Michael Barrett punch
4. Bumping an umpire, ejected.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

And this makes 5, then.

If the Cubs have any competent front office, they sit him down for a minimum of 2 weeks.

Get what they can for him. I guarantee this won't be the last time he does this. When is enough enough?

Apparently when he slugs an umpire or goes upside someone's head with a bat, a la Juan Marichal. That's just about what we're down to.

The problem is, what are you going to get for him now? He's got more baggage than Southwest Airlines, and a long term contract to boot.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

He struck out 18 batters.
A new league record.
And he walked 18 batters.
Also a new league record.

In addition, he hit the sportswriter, the public address announcer, and the Bull mascot twice.

Also, new league records.

:D

I wouldn't dig in too much if I were you...I don't know where it's going to go.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

And apparently Lenny Dykstra has admitted to being a 'roid monkey.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

The other thing I get from that clip is the moron saying "he gone" should be announcing games in nursery school.

You've never had the "pleasure" of listening to Hawk Harrelson?

He's singlehandedly the worst announcer in sports. Worse than a combination of Tim McCarver and Brent Musberger

You don't listen to WGN Radio, especially Ron Santos, do you?

Santo is at least a color man. Hawk Harrelson is nominally the play-by-play guy, though how 5 minutes of dead air after an opposing team's home run qualifies as play-by-play, I'll never know.

And Santo's groans are at least heartfelt. Harrelson's grammatically incorrect catchphrases are just his lameass attempts to be like Stuart Scott.

I can understand non-Cubs fans hating Santo. I can't understand anyone, even White Sox fans, liking Harrelson.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Harrelson sounds awful, but I'll bet he is a towering intellect compared to the "boobs on a stick" sideline personalities half the teams wheel out there.

But those are only on the air for 2 minutes per broadcast.

Harrelson's on the air for the entire 3 hours. That makes him infinitely worse (or at least 9000% worse).

I like Ron Santo. He's the perfect personality for the Cubs.

It's okay for a color commentary guy to be a slapdick. It's his job to, well, add color to the broadcast. Some flavor, if you will. It's something altogether different for the PBP guy to do so. He's supposed to tell us what is going on in at least a somewhat objective manner.
