It better be borderline-monsoon before they even think about asking for the tarp.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

What a ninth inning.

Lily finally gives up a hit, then Marmol almost single handedly flips Lily the bird and says "I'll blow it from here."

WOW.

Gut check after the balk. Marmol pulls it out of his backside.

Hapless Cubs salvage a game from the disappointing White Sox.

2.67 runs per game when Lily pitches this year. He's pitched very well otherwise.

Kudos to Lily though.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Ok, I have a question for all of you:

You're the GM or Manager and you have the following situation:

A rookie shortstop, very young. He's a top prospect in the system and looks to be a good one. He's spending some time with your big league team and is doing ok at the plate. However, he is in the top 15 among fielders in errors. You play in the National League so the DH isn't an option.

What would you do?

Ok, Cubs fans will automatically know who I am talking about, and I have nothing against this player. I just wonder what you would do?

Send him down. Get some experience to get a hold of the game at that level. Better to have someone excel and grow in AAA than struggle that bad in the MLB

I'm honestly not sure what I'd do. On one hand, he's walked into the big leagues early and has hit better than .250. On the other hand, he's not very reliable in the field.

Would there be a situation where would you find you wouldn't send him down under the same situation?

Nuke him from orbit.

Comon Priceless, I'm not criticizing anyone this time. I admit to being a cynic, but this time I'm actually being serious.

I don't really know what I'd do in this case.

Quite honestly, no. Unless he's hitting .315-.320 and knocking in a bunch of runs. Need to learn it the ropes down in the minors to cool him down a bit. I haven't been following the Cubs this year so I have no idea the situation or the player.

.250 isn't that great. It's especially not good enough to make up for all of those errors. He would probably benefit quite a bit down in AAA for a stretch. As long has he still has options.

The person I'm referring to (Priceless may have figured it out and is giving me grief over the fact that I'm very hard on the Cubs and I am not afraid to post it) is Starlin Castro.

He's a 20 year old rookie shortstop for the Cubs. He's hitting between .260 and .265 with 2 homers and a handful of RBIs.

He's not bad at all at the plate, despite his average being below .300.

However, he currently sits tied for 9th in the majors in errors (9).

I think he's going to be good, but I'm not sure bringing him up was a good idea.

I don't have a clue who it is, I just like the line. :D

Joe Morgan...please stop reading a script in your pre-game. And Orel looks like he is going to kill me with the eyebrows. Make it stop. Gah, I hate ESPN.
