MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Either that, or people are really excited to be Nats' fans. :D

Odd that they're not buying tix to tomorrow's game though... :p

I only say that because I'll be able to go to the first game of that Nats-ChiSox series next weekend and if he's not pitching that game, I've got a chance to get some really cherry seats.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

He was 3-0 on one guy and still struck him out. That curveball was nasty. If he avoids injury he will be something special, but after seeing Woods and Prior go down, I wouldn't rule anything out.

A lot of us thought Junior was going to be the greatest player of all time and be the one to break Hank Aaron's record. Injuries really took their toll - and he still put up first ballot HOF numbers. Time will tell with this kid. But what a debut.
The cynics or the world will note that Billy Rohr and Von McDaniel had even more impressive debuts. And even optimists ought to note the fact that Clay Buchholtz pitched a no-hitter against an AAAA lineup and next season he was back in the minors.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Jonathan Broxton has 42 strikeouts and 3 walks so far this season. That's pretty good.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Jose Valverde has a 0.37 ERA and opponents are hitting .115 off of him. Opposing hitters have an OBP of .216 against him. That's not too bad, either.

Bob Costas gave baseball fans a very thorough understanding of HOF careers that started in obscurity and obscure players who had HOF debuts. The verdict won't be in until he starts seeing teams two or three times to see if they adjust to him. Still, considering all the hype this kid had surrounding him, that was a pretty impressive display. The focus is on his 14K's and no walks, and the 34 pitches he threw at 98+ mph, but what was just as impressive to me was how he responded to trouble in the fourth (1st and 2nd, 0 out - he got a ground ball DP) and how he responded when he gave up the home run and the lead. On both occasions he performed admirably.

One start does not a career make, but his debut - with all the pressure and hype - was impressive.

TBS didn't make the Strasburg game their national broadcast? Fail!

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

What are you talking about, it is the national broadcast.

My guide says Red Sox-Phillies. And I just got several tweets from people saying they wish they could watch the Strasburg game. Guess there must be blackouts.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

My guide also says Phillies-Sox, but I've got Nats-Indians on my DirecTV feed.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

I'm sitting here watching the Angels/Dodgers game hoping the Dodgers can come back and tie the game.

Then Vin Scully informs me that Fernando Rodney is warming up for the Angels. Dreams can come true! :D

'Cept for Napoli hitting a HR to make it 6-3.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

I knew that HR would be trouble.

Rodney comes in and gives up 2 in the 8th. 6-5 Angels now.

If the Dodgers can manage to tie the game my fantasy team won't lose 2 pitching stats. :D

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

The White Sox and Cubs both suck, this could actually happen due to their hitters ineptitude.

But I am going to bet not. Its only the 6th.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Finally one of the two is broken up in the bottom of the 7th.

Now just Lilly for the Cubs is left.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

And the Very Special Pitching Performance is through eight innings.
