Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 6 K, 41 pitches for Mr. Strasburg.

If you assume 90 pitch max, hes on pace for 6+ innings. TV is saying my pitch count is 1 too high, but oh well. Maybe they are wrong! :p

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

4.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 6 K, 0 BB, 4.50 ERA, 57 pitches for Mr. Strasburg.

Gives up his first HR to Delwyn Young.

Uhhh, I can't find too much fault with that pitch. You're not supposed to yank that over the wall.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

5.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 8 K, 0 BB, 3.60 ERA, 71 pitches for Mr. Strasburg.

He may only have 1 inning left at this pitch rate.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

6.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 11 K, 0 BB, 3.00 ERA, 82 pitches for Mr. Strasburg.

He struck out the side twice in this game. Nationals need to get 1 run and at least give him the ND for this effort.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

The K's in the 6th were pretty impressive. His breaking ball is nasty.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

2 run shot

i understand that costas loves baseball, but too much storytelling as the PBP guy

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Tonight is like a second Christmas for baseball fans with the debuts of Stephen Strasburg and Michael Stanton both coming on the same nght.
I fail to see why I should be excited that awesome young players are starting to play for teams in my division. How am I supposed to enjoy it when teams that I dislike are crappy year after year if they keep getting lucky and getting awesome young players (Crosby, Malkin, Tavares, Strasburg, Harper for example) as a result? Congratulations DC baseball fans, your team is crappy, you never go to games, so we're giving you the best prospect of the last 20 years as a reward.

Yes, I know that's the way drafts work, but it's still irritating.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Final line (most likely), with a 4-2 lead.

7.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 14 K, 0 BB, 2.57 ERA, 94 pitches for Mr. Strasburg.

Struck out 7 in a row (8 of 9) at the end.

Stanton's 3rd AB (just now) was a fly out to right. 1/3, R so far.

ESPN is going to go ape****. And for the moment they actually might be justified this time.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

So, what are the expectations for young Mr. Strasburg tonight? Someone in Vegas must know something, because the over/under on pitch count is at 90. I bet 60-70 (5 innings) and no decision.

70-80 pitches and he doesn't finish the 6th. Coin flip chance that he even starts the 6th.

5 pitches, blows out arm, Tommy John surgery, season over :D

He is pitching at home, against the Pirates.

I can see him getting 6 innings, 4 walks, 4 Ks.

The Bucs are bad, but I can see him really being erratic given adrenaline. Figure he pitches in and out of trouble all night and runs up deep counts and goes 5 1/3, 5 hits, 4 walks. The runs will just depend on how Pittsburgh bunches their hits. Knowing the Pirates, they might still not score. :p

Nationals have said he will throw between 90-100 pitches. I can see 6 innings. 3-5 Ks, a few walks. Its the Bucs...so I expect a W for the Nats and Strasburg.

P.S. ESPN is having Strasburg-mania day. I guess its a brief break from the World Cup mania...though, Im actually a fan of it (just not the over-promoting ESPN is so good at).

Let's review the predictions. :D
