Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

So, what are the expectations for young Mr. Strasburg tonight? Someone in Vegas must know something, because the over/under on pitch count is at 90. I bet 60-70 (5 innings) and no decision.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

70-80 pitches and he doesn't finish the 6th. Coin flip chance that he even starts the 6th.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

5 pitches, blows out arm, Tommy John surgery, season over :D

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

He is pitching at home, against the Pirates.

I can see him getting 6 innings, 4 walks, 4 Ks.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

The Bucs are bad, but I can see him really being erratic given adrenaline. Figure he pitches in and out of trouble all night and runs up deep counts and goes 5 1/3, 5 hits, 4 walks. The runs will just depend on how Pittsburgh bunches their hits. Knowing the Pirates, they might still not score. :p

Nationals have said he will throw between 90-100 pitches. I can see 6 innings. 3-5 Ks, a few walks. Its the Bucs...so I expect a W for the Nats and Strasburg.

P.S. ESPN is having Strasburg-mania day. I guess its a brief break from the World Cup mania...though, Im actually a fan of it (just not the over-promoting ESPN is so good at).

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

I'm not going to sit, glued to the TV to watch him. I'll watch an inning or two to get a good look at him, then flip to the Tigers, and then the Deadliest Catch is at 9.

I'm flipping between Nationals and Marlins. I want to see Michael Stanton who is starting tonight.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Tonight is like a second Christmas for baseball fans with the debuts of Stephen Strasburg and Michael Stanton both coming on the same nght.

An even better night for fantasy baseball owners who have both in their NL only league:cool:

We're already in first place, here's to hoping we get an even bigger boost from these two.

I scooped Stanton last night so I could play him today, just in case.

I also happen to have Mike Leake and Jason Heyward. :D

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

1.0 IP , 0 H, 1 K, 12 pitches for Mr. Strasburg.

Mike Stanton is batting 7th for the Marlins and has not reached the plate yet. But its 1-0 Marlins in the 1st.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Nice first inning. Pitches seemed to really move. Hallion squeezed him a couple times.

And Zimmerman has staked him to a 1-0 lead.

I wonder if the fans were booing the up on those ball calls, or booing Strasburg for not throwing a strike. Most of the ball calls werent even close to strikes (except the nasty breaking ball) , so I cant see them booing the Ump on those ones.

He did reach 99 on the radar gun several times

Zimmerman hits a homerun. 1-0 For the Strasburg Nationals.

They were booing the ump because they wanted to cheer a called strike (regardless of location), which didn't come till the last batter.

If it was in Philly, then I'd believe they were booing their own pitcher in his debut.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Ok, now he is getting squeezed.

This Ump does not like rookies :D

Edit: He gets the K anyway from down 3-0.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 K, 31 pitches for Mr. Strasburg.

Mike Stanton gets an infield single in ML debut at bat off Kendrick. Was a chopper over the mound (3-2 count). He comes around to score on next batters hit.

Strasburg strikes out the side...but gives up a hit in there as well.

4 K's through 2 innings and some nasty breaking balls that are unhittable.
