Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

My friends and I went up to Thunder Bay for a couple days on a whim once. It was in the middle of May, and it was a gloomy dreary day. Evidently during the last leg of the drive the clouds had cleared unbeknownst to us. Pulled into the tiny family run motel right on the lake about midnight, and when we got out of the van we were greeted by the most amazing northern lights I have ever seen. Every color of the rainbow present. We just sat down and watched for three hours. None of us said a word during it.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

The North Shore is the most beautiful place in Minnesota. Haven't made it up to Thunder Bay yet...but hopefully will make a trip with the family up north this August or July.

The North Shore is the most beautiful place in Minnesota.

Agreed. Also look at a, "beautiful sites" book of MN sometime - I'm amazed at many of the places I've not yet been to that would make my camera blush.

I have a topographic map that includes all these great geographic and historic places in Minnesota to visit. I'd like to visit them all before I pass... The North Shore is my favorite place.

I may not be able to predict the weather but I can tell you what it was, and that was amazing! I have proof on my skin of how nice it was to be off work yesterday. :)

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Summer weather is here to stay and I couldn't be happier. When colder weather comes in late September its always a sad time.

I just hope we got some good storms while the atmospheric conditions are ripe during this time of year.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

"Oh yeah, we got some whedder last night."

Driving along Pilot Knob Rd there was debris strewn all about and then north of 160th DOT closed the road due to downed power lines. From where I sat at the light, it looked like the same goes for north of Cty Rd 42.

Personally, I woke up a few different times from the storm pelting my house. Sometimes it just doesn't pay to have a westerly facing window in your bedroom. While the neighborhood looked clean, I didn't have time to check for damage to my siding. I'm sure I'll hear about it through the association if that's the case, though.

So apparently it has rained so much a harbor seal escaped from the zoo, according a person listening to a police scanner.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Saw a picture of downtown Proctor on Facebook that showed water up to the top of a car. Fortunately we live at the top of a hill so we merely have a lot of water in one part of the basement. A facebook friend had about 4 feet of water in his. Zoo found seals on Grand Ave, but now missing polar bear. Superior High School flooded car window deep.

All animals are accounted for. 1 or 2 have drowned. Here is the escaped seal:

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

This is now a 100 year flood. So many roads, basements, cars and parking lots are underwater. I know two of the houses I lived in would have some very flooded basements right now. Duluth is only set to get more rain today.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Just bad. I was in town last weekend for Grandma's Marathon and it's crazy to see these photos and videos of the same places I just was. Talked with a lot of friends today who are going to have a really tough time cleaning up. Parts of Duluth won't look the same for a very long time:(

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Work sent me up to Virginia today and I drive through water on i35 south of Carlton, avoided Cloquet by heading from Carlton to Brookston and back over to 33 using us-2. That only resulted in me driving through about a dozen spots where water was flowing over the road. My drive gone from Virginia has me taking 169 all the way through Hibbing, Grand Rapids and around Mille Lacs. Currently in Aitkin. What an f'ed up day.
