Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

That's use of technology you're talking about. Next thing you know, you're going to suggest he start using credit and debit cards!
My favorite Brent technology quirk is the fact that he has a Kindle Fire, loves it, but won't get a phone with even a camara on it. :p
The kindle fire is basically a smartphone without the ability to call people!

When he eats dinner does he keep all his foods separated and eat all of the vegetables, then all of the potatoes, then all of the meat?

Based on the call quality / dropped call problem, I'd say smart phones don't really have the ability to call people, either. :p

Mine doesn't have a problem with dropping calls or having poor quality calls. But then, I bought a smartphone from a company that makes phones, not one that makes mp3 players and laptops.

Good that you caught on to what I was referencing there. :D

My only reason for not having a smartphone is I don't need one (yet). As long as I can get away with texting and navigating with my brain as opposed to some sat nav gadget, I will not buy one. Paying $15 every 3 months is way better than dropping twice that (or more) on a monthly basis to play "words with friends" and other pointless ****.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Swamps (and lakes) are the last things to dry out.

Most areas are bone dry, so unless we get a lot of moisture in the coming months, the mosquito problem should be minimal (unless you happen to live next to a swamp). :p
Got a creek running thru a corner of our fourty acres, a small pond, and a pothole that takes a month of dry weather to dry it out. I would like to see the bugs thinned out naturally a bit.
Don't forget about ticks! They are going to be bad this season. My poor dogs!
Yep. And you people with seasonal Allergies are going to be hosed soon they're saying.

Separated? Yes. That other stuff? No.

And I don't need a smartphone. I bought the Kindle for travel mainly, since I've been taking a few trips per year now, and it's better than carrying 4-5 books. That wireless internet stuff on there was just bonus.

Plans for a beverage and some music at PD Pappy's on the St. Croix? Best bring your waders.

You now have one of the pool bars without the expense of actually building one. You have to look at the silver lining...

Umm, you get lost in your own town. You need a smart phone just for the GPS and turn-by-turn directions.

They're too handy to be able to justify not having one. The amount I've used mine for non-frivilous(frivilous=games, posting here, facebook, etc) things far outweighs the cost and other negatives of having one. Its not even close.

Oh for ****'s sake, this is the most retarded argument I have ever seen. You do not need a smart phone for GPS - you can still buy GPS devices, and they are very cheap.

Why can't some of you grasp the concept of some people not wanting to be connected to the web 24/7 no matter where they go? I get the fact that smart phones can be useful in different situations - but to say they're a necessity or anything close to that is beyond stupid, particularly for people who do not need to be in touch with job-related **** all the time.

Oh, I know it. I just can't turn down any opportunity to give Brent **** about his dumb choices and inability to navigate.

I also found a smart phone really, really useful once I got one, especially when managing my kid's hockey team.. I'm too cheap to have one on my own though - if the company isn't paying for it, neither am I.

My wife has a very basic, very dumb phone and that is just fine with both of us.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Ever notice people with Smart phones have them in their hands all the time, always checking them. I don't see how one gets anything done?.

I eventually get to where I'm going. It just might take a little longer than normal. :p

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

We were at Gooseberry Falls on Wednesday and just four days prior (there is a picture of it in the gift shop) there was water gushing down the stairwell on the left side of the lower section of the falls.

btw - Grand Marais, Lutsen and Tofte were as glorious as ever and the kids got to see a ship going through the lift bridge in Duluth up close.

Back in college, we decided to drive up to Thunder Bay for breakfast (left at 2am-ish). Beautiful moonlit night in winter, and the views of nature up there are unreal. Even saw a wolf run along the side of the road. Totally in awe.
