Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Extreme western metro being pounded. Reports of baseball-grapefruit sized hail, and two confirmed touchdowns thus far, most recent near Watertown. Be safe everybody.

I can't tell if it's gonna hit me or not. I'm supposedly in the pathway, but there's nothing going on outside in the way of signals of severe weather.

And in true Minnesotan fashion, I'm watching the local channels, following the storm. (well, there really is nothing else on, but still) :o

It looks to me like the worst of it will go southwest of you, as it looks like it will barely miss the most densely populated areas.

That's what they are saying now. Just stepped outside, and the sirens are really wailing (although since I hear a couple different cities' sirens, it kinda sounds like the Godfather theme, which is eerie).

Starting to clear up here, getting some raindrops, but nothing else. Apparently it's 90 out, but it sure doesn't feel like it.

Sun is out again here in the NW. Storm seems to be bearing down on Chaska.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

It'll hit the burbs to the W and S of 494. It looks like it will miss Brent by about 15 miles. Chanhassen, Chaska, and Eden Prairie will get hit. This storm has produced hail up to 4" in diameter.

The main event will be later this evening. There's a massive complex of storms forming in the western part of the state that will dive SE. The main threats with that will be high wind and very heavy rain.

Better be a darn good light show. I'm still mad about the non-storm on Wed.

Looks like the storm finally collapsed and is dying now. Given that it apparently formed way to the NW, I'd say it had a good run (plus it did some damage in Stearns county, so props to it for doing that :p ).

Not much of anything should happen for the next 3-4 hours. Once the twins game ends, we should be seeing a complex approaching from the NW. With all the moisture available, flash flooding could be a problem.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=mpx

ETA of 2-3 hours. Multiple warnings are active with this line of storms. Interestingly, more are firing behind the line and are generating warnings themselves - highly unusual with a line that is moving SE - as it typically cuts off the inflow that storms forming behind it would need to strengthen.

My yard is just begging for rain and just like last weekn when north of me got hammered I got barely a sniff.

Which side of the metro are you on?

It looks like the entire metro area is going to get a healthy shot of rain this evening. There's a storm about to enter NW hennepin county capable of 75+ mph winds.

Sweet.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

I took a peek at your radar. That doesn't look fun to deal with.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

The northern half of the twin cities metro area is now under a warning. 70mph winds are expected. The southern half of the metro will escape - for the time being (the part of the line to impact this side of the metro is lagging behind a bit).

KSTP is showing a cool-looking shelf cloud.

Monticello reported a 76 mph wind gust within the past 10 minutes.

Correction: the storm is building south.

Second addendum: tornado warning just issued. Radar-indicated and law enforcement confirmed near Rogers.

The thunder and lightning have begun. The lightning isn't lingering, it's a flash, then it's gone, and the thunder is just a low rumble, no shaking the apartment (yet).

Rainfall rate: 3.5" per hour with this line. Good god almighty.

KSTP now saying pretty much the entire metro area should prepare for damaging winds within the hour. Brent, the gust front should be hitting you shortly.

Text from brother: now we're talking. Green skies, 75 mph winds, and heavy heavy pain here.

He's in St Michael, on Beebe Lake.

Edit: 8:33 hits here, according to channel 45.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Funnel cloud reported at Arbor Lakes (169/Elm Creek Blvd).

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Funnel cloud reported near Maple Grove on 169.

Gust front is w/in 10 miles of you Brent.

The 494 corridor is now under a warning until 9:15 (southern hennepin, northern dakota, southern ramsey, northeastern carver, northeastern scott).

Interestingly, the SW metro might be at risk of a tornado now due to the rotation occurring on the southern edge of the bowing line.
