The car across from us may never get out...

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

So sometime this afternoon we will be trying to drive from north of Brainerd to Edina. Think the plows will have it cleared by then?

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

I walked across the street to the gas station to pick up provisions this morning.

Had to walk in the street most of the way as sidewalks are covered past my waist from the roads being cleared. I don't envy people who have to shovel the old fashioned way. Streets were completely clear. Just the side street entries still had a bit of snow mound across them.

Probably saw a dozen cars out driving with it being Sunday AM and a huge arse blizzard having just past.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Same with the Brainerd area. Not even a flake.

Same here. A dusting, maybe. North, South, and West of me got more, though. It's like a weird little pocket of non-blizzard. It's really windy, though. And we got a lot of rain yesterday - if that had been snow, it would've been a foot, easy. With all the rain, the snow we DID get before is mostly gone.

Took me 90 minutes yesterday to get to bbdl's, which is normally a 45 minute drive. No real problems. Either the road was sorta plowed/heavy wind, or it wasn't really plowed/no wind. So choose your poison. Jeep got pushed around a bit, though. Only counted 6 cars in the ditch, which was surprising.

Everybody had their driveways cleared this morning....Except this guy. At least he has his newspaper.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

The southern / eastern metro definitely took the brunt of this storm - 15-22" appears to be the range. I'd estimate 18" fell here in Eagan with drifts 2-3x higher than that.

We have about the same in Prior Lake. Hard to really tell because of the drifting though. At least the sun is out to distract you from the 7 F air temperature and -15 F windchill.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Got stuck twice on Saturday on the way to work. The first was exiting off of 494 onto 62 in Eden Prairie. Then when I got loose from that I got stuck again about two blocks onto 62. I like how they cleared two of three lanes and left that big snowbank in the middle of the road. Found out later that they closed 62 because they are incompetent.

Then five of us got a hotel (on the company's dime) Saturday night because none of us were interested in the possibility of getting stuck in the ditch at 11pm. Trying to get out of the parking lot last night after work I got stuck in a snowbank and ended up cracking my front bumper. :(

I'd like to thank the good Samaritans who helped dig me out all three times. I'd also like to give the finger to all the guys with plows on the front of their trucks who went flying past me when I was waving for help. Buttholes.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

How the hell did Fergus Falls avoid getting any snow?
There's always a sharp cutoff to the snowfall with these storms. Drive an hour or two NW or N of the cities, and you'd see basically no impact from this storm (other than the cold air behind it). In common USCHO parlance, it's "being on the right side of the abortion".

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Then they could have taken care of the snowbank I was stuck in in the middle of the highway.

Time is money, and they can't stop for all the people stuck, seemingly, on the road, not even off it. HA!

It's really simple math. Those plow operators have these things called contracts that require them to remove snow in a timely fashion from parking lots and such. Apartment complexes, townhouse developments, businesses... all these places have contracts to remove snow that cost thousands of dollars annually. If the choice is helping random idiots get unstuck from snowbanks or going to a worksite and fulfilling a contractual obligation, the latter will win every single time. If these plow drivers don't remove the snow in a timely fashion, their companies will lose the contracts.

Re: Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

The only problem I had driving today in my Honda Civic was ice building up on my windshield wiper and it not properly clearing my line of sight.

People need to stop whining.

Really, the best solution would be if stupid people 1) learned his to drive in the winter 2) drove a car that is actually appropriate for winter driving 3) didn't drive when it is beyond their abilities to do so.
