Minnesotans Arguing About the Weather IV: Niño or Niña, My Joints Stopped Trying

Less than 30 minutes from Hawaii now.

Mayor of Honolulu was telling people that if they had to drive the wrong way on a one way street to go ahead.

Woke up to this news. I’m getting to see Al Jazeera coverage since it’s the only English news channel in this hotel and i cannot understand a lick of danish, despite knowing Swedish, German and some Dutch

With how difficult it is to get to Kamchatka itself, recovery seems like a nightmare

The worst part of this whole thing was the media coverage. They looked at anything to show a disaster- especially hyping when water receded. Instead of taking about the data they were being shown that it may not be that bad.

By the time it hit, everything was evacuated. And in reality, the evacuation zone was pretty small- we face the water on our side of this complex, but the zone ended at the road where this complex ends- just one block. So they never expected more than a couple of feet of flooding and added a very easy and healthy buffer addition.

And that was a good thing, as it takes barely any water to put someone down and wash them away.

But seeing the barrage of the same thing over and over as breaking news for 8 or so hours… I see some people ignoring the warnings when it’s really bad. Just like hurricanes.

Some one tell Canada to smarten the fuck up on their wild fires, the sky is yellow here and my throat doesn't like it at all

I was driving NW towards Warroad the other day, and the smoke created the illusory image of small tornadoes over the highway. That close to the Canadian border, the smoke tasted thicker in the air than I’d ever experienced before then.

The MNGOP still can’t get a good answer as to what’s holding up those anti-wildfire smoke fans.

It has been extremely dry here in recent weeks. Less than 2 inches of rain total in the 6 weeks since 8/1 vs. a historical August average of about 3.25" and similar for September. Lots of brown lawns.

On a positive note, not many people around here water their lawns, likely because water in this burb is so damn expensive. I regularly pay $200-250 per quarter for a household of 2 adults and 5 pets.

Where we really get killed is on sewage, almost all of which had to be replaced about 10 years ago after a catastrophic failure flooded tons of basements.

It’s been hot around here. After tomorrow, it looks like we’re going to break the heat and start back towards seasonal temps. My electric meter looks forward to it.

We're breaking the heat for two days, then back to a high of 80 for the three days after that. Crazy.
