Minnesota Women's Hockey Off-Season 2015: #BASK

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey Off-Season 2015: #BASK

"She was also one of five finalists for the Minnesota Ms. Hockey award her senior year, given to the top high school player in the state. The award’s winner that year, defenseman Sydney Baldwin, and two other finalists, forwards Kelly Pannek and Nina Rodgers, are already members of the Gophers women’s hockey team."

Trying to remember who was the 5th finalist? Pretty amazing that now four out of the five ended up being Gophers.

5th Finalist was Sam Donovan played at Brown.

And I see her college career got off to a great start, having led the team in goals scored as a freshman. Best of luck to her the rest of the way!

Sorry to keep interrupting this great discussion about possible line combinations for the upcoming season. While I have enjoyed the banter, I don't feel I am a good-enough prognosticator to provide a prediction myself.

In the interim, I'll continue to share other GWH news, especially in this particular case because it involves academic achievement, something very near and dear to my heart.

Thirteen Gophers Named Academic All-Big Ten

Seniors Racheal Bona, Meghan Lorence, Rachel Ramsey, and Shyler Sletta, juniors Hannah Brandt and Maryanne Menefee, and sophomores Dani Cameranesi, Kelsey Cline, Kate Flug, Paige Haley, Sidney Peters, Kate Schipper, and Lee Stecklein have been honored by the Big Ten Conference for their academic achievements.

To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners in at least their second academic year at their institution and maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

Bona and Ramsey lead the way as three-time Academic All-Big Ten honorees. Brandt and Sletta are both two-time award recipients as well.

Even more than they way they play hockey, this is what makes me proud to be a womens hockey fan, the game is kept in perspective to what college is supposed to be for. It is why I really am not excited about pro hockey for women. Many many congratulations to these fine women and to the staff that has chosen so well and guided so abely.

I'm surprised no one posted this yet: http://www.startribune.com/feds-weigh-allegations-of-gender-inequity-in-u-of-m-sports/306866861/. Front page of the Strib this morning.
This was rumored quite some time ago. With some merit in my opinion...based on what I had heard and interpreted. Not claiming to be irrefutably informed but the scuttlebutt was that Maturi decided to step down for not wanting to acquiesce to the objectives. Rumored objectives of, and a directive for cutting funds from women's athletics to pump more money into football. Maturi was known as a pretty staunch supporter of women's athletics at the U. Here's another opinion: I think Teague is bad news and his claim of no bias is fertilizer.

It is a bit of a double-edged sword because football, men's basketball, and men's hockey are THE revenue producing sports for the whole athletic program and under Maturi, there were definite issues with how those were run. Definitely a change for the better with Teague as far as those revenue producing sports go and I wouldn't be alone in that assessment.

Sorry pokey, my opinion regarding the objectives of Teague stand. I'll worry about an attempt to avoid stupid commentary when you start worrying about being an a s s h o l e. Deal? ;)

I'm not even sure how the links you've posted are intended to refute anything Brooky said.
