Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred

My favorite was when he called Rob Andringa "Mark Zengerle". "I'm here with Kevin Gorg and Mark Zengerle..." He must have been thinking about Zengerle, and then accidentally said it. I remember Paul Braun always had trouble with Jason Francisco's name. Jason San Francisco. He couldn't NOT say it. :)

I'm not a huge Andringa fan either, but at least he just does color and he tries to be fair, and he's less annoying than Sags. LaPanta was jabbering about god-knows-what during odd man rushes and didn't even call the first 2 Wisconsin goals.

I still miss the Wooger.

As a Gopher fan, I obviously like the Wooger. And actually, I don't mind Andringa too much. The PBP guy, on the other hand, has been horrible both times he called games this year. Can't stand LaPanta.

This maybe have been covered but why sieve chant when the goalie makes a save? Makes zero sense and to me speaks to the whole knowledgeable fan base issue.

I find it interesting that people keep harping on this one. There are two schools of thought: 1) Ask the existential question: does a sieve ever stop being a sieve? Does Jerry Sandusky stop being a horrible person if he holds a door open for an old lady (before sodomizing her grandson)? 2) How dry of a personality do you need to feel like taunting needs to be 100% accurate?

Still doesn't explain chanting it after we score to take a 4-1 lead. At that point I think most would argue it is your goalie, not ours, who is a sieve (if either are). I fondly remember a time when the chant wasn't over used and the term actually meant something.

So please, stop with the rationalizations. The majority of your fan base doesn't know what it means. Is it the end of the world? No, but we find it a little annoying and like to tease you for it.

What do you expect them to chant, "Good for you"? At what point do people like you stop expecting opposing fans to behave like they owe your team something?

I don't know. You guys are the kings of chants. Find something a little more appropriate for the circumstance. Or, God forbid, don't do a chant and actually watch the game.

And again, do what you want. You don't owe us anything, but we don't owe you anything either. If you chant that our goalie is sieve after our goalie makes a save, or after an empty net goal, or especially after WE SCORE to take a three goal lead, you are going to get teased for it. Seriously, what do you expect?

And for the record, I was a little more irked by the "Badger Rejects" chant. Please, explain why you guys shouldn't get teased for it? Your fans obviously did it for a reaction. Well, they're getting a reaction. I'm sorry it wasn't the one you were hoping for.

My favorite nonsensical Badger chant was definitely the "Badger reject" chant following Condon's goal.

The timing was humorous to say the least.

I had a great time in Madison on Saturday. Only a couple drunk fools yelling at us for the Gopher gear. Pretty easy to ignore that, you'll run into that in every place.

Most were more interested in some good-natured ribbing and talking some hockey over a few beers. Of course football came up, I would just comment that my being in Madison instead of MPLS. should tell them all they needed to know. :D

Rhetorical question I gather. ;)

I mostly enjoy the student section antics, but the one thing that has bothered me over the last few years is the need to add "dick" at the end of everything.

Why all the chanting irritation? I once went to an Allen Ginsberg reading, and he chanted with his harmonium for 45 minutes before he read a word. I didn't hear anything in there about "Badger rejects," but it might have helped, to be honest. Besides, nearly all gopher players and fans are rejects of one kind or another, so it's not like that chant is ever completely wrong.

Jared Allen celebrating sacks when his team is down by 14 and then down by 24?

You can see why we question Vikings players' knowledge of the game. Doesn't he know they're losing?

:p
