Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred

You can't expect him to be sober for his court appearance on a DWI charge, come on now it's in their blood (alcohol content) over there.

LOL! Great find! Our neighbors never fail to disappoint :)

Hey Chuck and Gurt, it sounds like he needs a defense attorney. Maybe you guys can help him rationalize himself out of his predicament.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred

Literally impossible for me to care less. I have never watched full football game, start to finish, in my life. Never will.

Why? I have nothing else going on and toying with him is amusing :)

He's already moved on to football because he got schooled in our hockey discussion. Love it.

Yeah, it is :)

Politics now. Excellent. I guess anything but hockey, cause you gotta stick with what you know ;)

Not really. Not at all :)

Not trying to troll. My comments are aimed at one person in particular, and are either factual or my actual opinions.

And anyone who uses a picture of Barray Alvarez as his avatar, and posts about football on a hockey board, is really inviting it upon themselves.

You have to be bothered by what he's saying to be bait.

I'm not in any way.

In fact, I found his stupidity amusing.

I think he has adequately assisted in personifying the cluelessness of his fan base, which has gratified me enough to move on :)

And your bitterness that Wisconsin hockey will never get the attention that Minnesota hockey does is palatable.

And I savor that bitterness :D

And please, come back with another sly remark. I have lingered here far longer than I've posted, and we both know this is true.

LOL! Great find! Our neighbors never fail to disappoint :)

Excellent job of not caring. Really well done.

JDUBBS and his Dad enjoying gopher hockey.

I think that is the badger neutral zone trap that has them zoning out. The only antidote is a dance routine.

Actually it was a gopher intra-squad scrimmage, purple vs. yellow.

Stop trying to rationalize them, and I'll stop responding.

Gurt,

I think you'll just have to cut the line on this one and hope he makes it. Maybe file the barb off next time.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred

What do you expect them to chant, "Good for you"? At what point do people like you stop expecting opposing fans to behave like they owe your team something?

You owe us everything so stop pretending like you don't. :P

I find it interesting that people keep harping on this one. There are two schools of thought: 1) Ask the existential question: does a sieve ever stop being a sieve? Does Jerry Sandusky stop being a horrible person if he holds a door open for an old lady (before sodomizing her grandson)? 2) How dry of a personality do you need to feel like taunting needs to be 100% accurate?

The point is simply it doesn't make sense. Sieves don't stop things, everything gets through. So at that particulat moment there is no sieve. Taunting needs to be accurate for it to have an impact or have some degree of insult. Not 100%accuracy is needed. I'd be okay with 50% but certainly more than 0% otherwise it is lost and confusing and not insulting at all. Sieving a goalie who makes a stop is 0% accurate and I would think it may build up the goalie because he's showing up the crowd in that case. I guess the argument is it is a bit ironic, but the stupidity of it easily overshadows the irony and there is zero humor at all. Is that why it's done? No one has really explained what is attempting to be accomplished with that chant because I don't see how it would bother anyone, other than confusing them of course.

One example is I remember hearing them chant "better goalie" to an empty net. That was, while not 100% accurate, was at least humorous and was insulting at the same time. Sieving a save accomplishes neither one.

And sieving your own goalie after we score to take a 3 goal lead is the pinnacle of the stupidity of this fan base thus far.

Only thing better would be to have them chant sieve after their goalie is lifted for poor performance. Give it time. With this fan base, it's bound to happen :D

Back in the old days at the great Dane, they knew how to use the "Sieve" chant and it was effective. It was used only after 'Sconny scored and it got in the goalie's head and intimidated them. It's been watered down to where it's just silly and stupid. I actually like that the fans have wasted a weapon they used to wield effectively. :D

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred

There was a discussion on the ESPN NHL message boards last year about this very Sieve topic.. Some WI Hockey fan posted the question for all NHL fans to respond to.. That poster wanted to know if chanting "sieve sieve sieve" during an empty net goal made any sense.. And they also asked the posters to say what the word sieve means in hockey.. There was about 6 WI hockey fans arguing with EVERYONE that replied that Sieve is an insult to the net minder and that chanting it during an empty net made zero sense...

I really don't care to be honest, imo its just kids having fun with their chants and getting involved.

It's like the bluegills at the end of the dock that just keep coming back to the same worm. Great way to get your kids into fishing coz those bluegills are so easy to catch.

One thing though, I don't believe that the bluegills are dumb enough to think that they are in fact catching me.

Now if I could hook Brent? I'd definitely mount him on my wall. :D

Yes, that double entendre was in fact intentional.

You're already in the boat pal. Just because you're flapping, it doesn't mean you're in the water ;)
