Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

How about Perkins? I think it'd be worth a shot...Otherwise I like Liriano, unless he's returned to form as a starter.

Jesse Crain was always thought have been a closer.
Perkins could work. They have some options, at this point we have to hope that one of these guys will step up, since I doubt they will go out and get a closer. Jesse Crain as a closer scares the **** out of me.

And Perkins doesn't? He scares me in the first inning. A lot of their options might depend on how Slowey is; if he is back throwing well, that fills a spot in the rotation and gives them more flexibility in trying someone else in a featured BP role.

On the bright side, he won't be able to blow any post-season saves if hes out for the year.

Or save 47 games for us. He is more important than people give credit.

what he said...

I think it'll be Jon Rauch closing games for this season, unless they make a move around the league to bring somebody in, which I don't really have a clue as to who they would trade for, and what they would give up, etc.

Maybe with a couple weeks off we'll just get lucky enough for things to work out for Joe!:p

And if Crain's a closer, thank God, cause he sure as hell blows everywhere else.

I know Nathan is important. I was just trying to find a bright spot in these dark times. :)

edit: at least man up and sign your pointless neg reps.

Could this possibly be a good thing, where we get to move on from the Nathan era and find our next closer without management taking heat from the fans?

I think the team is constructed to win now and this doesn't help matters any. They'll compete for the division and the 162 game season should be a lot of fun.

Twins are on TV today, 3-13, at noon on the MLB Network and Fox Sports North.

All things being equal, management would probably rather take some heat from the fans than spend millions on a guy who can't take the mound.

Drove by Target Field last night, it was all lit up, you could see all of the merchandise in the pro-shop store, ready to sell. The plaza area looks awesome. I'm really excited for some baseball now that I saw that!

The more I toss around the closer situation in my head, the more I think that they will end up finding a passable closer within the system. There are several options that have been tossed around and the way I'm thinking is that one of those guys will be able to step into the role and perform. It may take a little bit to figure out which guy that is, but I think it will be ironed out after not too long. I'm hoping that Neshek is able to pitch to the level where he would be capable of closing.

Overall, I think that the Twins have easily the best offense in the division. The line up is solid from top to bottom...errr, 8th ;)

Defensively they should be fine, the infield of Mauer, Morneau, Hudson, Hardy and Punto should be solid defensively. The corner outfielders are probably the biggest question mark, but Cuddyer has a big arm, which is an advantage for him, and Span in center will be great when he focuses on the single position.

Pitching is the biggest question mark. I don't think there is a doubt that this staff has some potential, with all of the young starters in the mix, but are they ready to take the next step? IMO, the Twins can still win the central with the same pitching performance they had last season, but if they want to do more than that (as they should), they will need one or 2 of those guys to step up and be number 1 and number 2 type starters. I'm looking at you Scott Baker.

Bullpen, I don't know, the Nathan thing hurts, not only because we lose Nathan, but its going to take one of the top setup guys to replace him. I think I like the situation better this year than last year, with Neshek coming back, Rauch, and Condrey in the mix. Hopefully they don't have to wear out Guerrier's arm early like they have had to recently.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

Baker is not going to be a #1, he could be a solid #2 and if he does that that is good enough for me. This team needs Liriano to go back to form if they want any chance of advancing past the first round of the playoffs.

Minus Mauer the team is locked up for the foreseeable future. That is good work by the Twins. Barring injuries this team is going win a lot of games.

I get to find out which games I am going to soon :D

I can agree with that. Liriano is the guy on the roster that can be a shut-down #1 starter. I could see Baker, Slowey, Blackburn and Pavano all possibly being solid #2's but the most I'd hope for is for 1 or 2 them to actually do that this year.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

I like Blackburn a lot, I think Slowey is a bit overrated. I like that they have kept the staff together though :D
