Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

This turn from bad to more bad.

FORT MYERS -- Twins closer Joe Nathan said Sunday morning that he will return to Minnesota for an MRI exam on his surgically repaired right elbow.

Nathan left Saturday's game against Boston with the injury and came back Sunday morning feeling continued soreness and stiffness in the elbow.

Nathan, 35, had surgery Oct. 20 to remove bone spurs and other loose particles from the elbow. He hopes and the team hopes that what he's experiencing is the breaking up of scar tissue in the elbow.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

This begs the question: what is the worst case scenario here? Let's say Nathan is done for half, maybe the entire year.

The wife and I had an interesting breakfast conversation about this topic. We really didn't come up with any solid conclusions, just more questions and "what ifs." One thought we had was Liriano. There are a lot of "what ifs" around that, but let's say his slider is indeed as good as it once was. Does he make an effective closer? What happens then to the 5th spot in the rotation? Time to go shopping at a time the front office needs to focus on the Mauer contract? I'm not even sure what is out there.

Of course, it probably is too early to jump to any conclusions, and Gardy is sure playing it off as "no big deal" right now (as one would expect).

Who says the Twins can't beat the Yankees?

Yankees 0, Twins 11. :D

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

look like a Joe Mauer deal will be announce soon. this is from multiple sources.

the deal that is rumor is 8 years/165-175 million, 2 option years to possible make it a 10 year deal. The option years would be between 23-25 million per.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

Sadly our split squad got stomped by the Pirates 15-5.

Portes had 6 rbi in the Yankee game.

New hot dogs, $1 dog night moved to Monday.

Twins Big Dogs will take over Target Field; 3 others join Original Twins Dog

Move over, Dome Dogs. The Twins Big Dogs are here.

The Minnesota Twins said today that a new supplier will sell four kinds of hot dogs at the team's new home, Target Field. The hot dogs are made by Schweigert Meats, which is owned by Minneapolis-based Cargill Foods.

The Twins Big Dog is a quarter-pound, all-beef dog that replaces longtime fan favorite Dome Dog, which was made by Austin-based Hormel Foods Corp. The Big Dog will be sold at portable grills and concession stands.

The Original Twins Dog is a pork and beef hot dog made from the same recipe as hot dogs served at Metropolitan Stadium, the team's first ballpark.

The Dugout Dog is made of pork and beef. Vendors sell these hot dogs in the stands during home games.

The Dinger Dog is an extra-long, pork and beef hot dog. It will be sold at Hennepin Grille locations at the stadium.

The team will also continue its Dollar-A-Dog Days promotion at the new stadium. During every Monday home game, the Original Twins Dog will sell for a buck — except for opening day. The promotion is limited to two hot dogs per person and capped at 20,000 hot dogs per game.

The first regular-season home game in the new stadium is April 12 against the Boston Red Sox.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

The password for the Twins pre-sale for season ticket holders has been floating around, I ordered a pair of tickets using it. The ticket office called and said they'd be trying to match all of the orders, but some may slip through. I'll take the chance. If I get them, I get them. Does anybody want the password?

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

The password is SD

Can't guarantee it'll work. It was posted on the Target Field unofficial fan page earlier today and pulled down later.

So far, it's worked for me, but it is supposed to be for season ticket holders only. I figure I'll either get the tickets or have the order canceled.

This reminds me, will the new field have the sorta-secret bar like the Dome had? The Dome one was supposed to be for season-ticket holders only, but if you scouted it out, you could get in when the security guard (usually some crusty old guy) was away.

Honestly, you really had to look for it to find it. The entrance looked like a standard service hallway/entrance. I think it was called The Sun Room.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

KFAN just announced on my drive to work that Joe Nathan has a torn ligament in his elbow. He will try to pitch again in 2 weeks, if there is still pain, he'll need surgery and be out for the season. :(

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

On the bright side, he won't be able to blow any post-season saves if hes out for the year.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

So...Twins don't have a closer (I have hope that he'll pitch in 2 weeks and it won't hurt). Who's the possible replacement?

Neshek - Will he be able to pitch effectively coming off of tommy john surgery?
Guerrier - Excuse me while I throw up.
Liriano - Could work...
Rauch - Possible, though not my first choice.
Mijares - ....

Note the warning...

The address information you enter during the check-out process MUST MATCH the address on record with the Twins for your season ticket holder account. Orders with non-matching addresses will be cancelled - no exceptions. This match is required in support of our continuing effort to curb scalping, deter fraudulent registrants, and maintain the integrity of the exclusive season ticket holder pre-sale window.

How about Perkins? I think it'd be worth a shot...Otherwise I like Liriano, unless he's returned to form as a starter.

Jesse Crain was always thought have been a closer.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

ESPN listed the save history of all the Twins relievers last week.

The only one with more than 4 saves career was Rauch (26), and Nathan (240+)
