Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

Anaheim has a pitcher that looks like Chris Kataan but now I forget which one it was.

The Delmon hating was always wrong, the Punto disdain was always right.

So, if you can hit it's all good but if you're one of the best fielders on the team just go away?

I couldn't disagree more. And if I remember correctly it was Punto who had some of the best at bats against the Yankees in the playoffs last year.

He's also the one that overran third base in Game 3.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

Sure. And Delmon Young had numerous at bats in that series where he was up and down in 3 or less pitches.
Well, I'm not sticking up for Delmon. :p

Though, I do think he's going to have a career year this year. I think it is a very good sign that he's lost some weight, it looks like he's making a solid effort to improve.

I even saw him take a first pitch the other day

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

He took a first pitch yesterday...and belted it over the left field wall. ;) :D

I honestly hope he has an awesome year this year. I just disagree that Punto deserves any disdain at all. He's the perfect utility infielder and that's his role this year. If someone gets hurt than rest assured he'll be starting unless they bring up the kid at 3rd.

I agree 100% that he is the perfect utility infielder, but Gardy seems to want to turn him into an everyday starter, which, IMO, is not the best role for him. His perfect role is late inning defensive specialist, starting to give a regular a day off and filling in for an injured player. If that was what he was used as, awesome, because he's probably one of the best in the league in that role.

I think circumstances have made him an everyday starter more often than not. This year he's in the role he should be and as long as it stays that way the Twins are probably in good shape in the infield.

Dam you! I've seen what happens to teams that you start planning ttps for!

You start talking about shut outs in the middle of the second period and no hitters in the 7th inning too, don't you!

pssst, I think goldy would like you to start planning a ttp for the Wisconsin Badgers

No, but I have ttp's planned for Minnesotas gift to hockey also known as the "U" and that tech team up in the UP for the next 50 years or so. :D

No. Punto has been around a long time - he is what he is. Delmon is essentially still a MLB baby with lots of upside. Yeah, he looks ungraceful in the outfield, but I've always felt there's a lot of potential there. Punto can't hit, can't run the bases and I've proven his defense is vastly overrated compared with other options (namely Harris) on the team. That he plays as often that he does is a travaschmockery.

After three years of "upside" Gopher hockey I've tired of the term. I hope Delmon is lights out this year but up till now he's been less of a player than Punto the guy you disdain.

And let's not forget how punto found his bat late last year and helped lead the charge into the postseason.

I haven't forgotten. He had better at bats than most of the team in the postseason last year.

No joke. I'm not forgetting what delmon did late in the season too. But what punto did was extraordinary.
