Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: Part II - The Franchise Strikes Back

I get upset that people are okay with another central title and a first round exit. "Well, they won a lot of series throughout the yeary!" "Oh, Joe Mauer!" "At least we made the playoffs!"

Well, that was mostly just nathan. But anyone saying the twins can't beat the yankees in a series is being silly as well.
We're saying it's highly unlikely that they will.

Can you name the last time it happened?

So how do we get beyond the hump?

I said it once, I'll say it again. Enjoy the season. It's all we have and all we're going to get.

 Intelligent. Seriously, what do you do to get over the hump?

Better bench depth.
A closer
not having a starting rotation full of solid #2-4s. Have an ace or two
Dome Dogs
Less JJ Hardy

Start hitting with runners in scoring position. This team is what it is pitching wise. They may be able to make a move. But, we knew coming in they were more of a scoring team based on the lineup than a "piranha" type team yet they keep trying to win on pitching and defense when they should be winning by knocking the cover off.

Here's what I had on my Facebook page a couple days ago,

Twins needs:
Hardy to come back
3rd Baseman
3 relievers not named Crain, Mijares, or Mahay
Kubel to figure things out
A true #1 starter

I now also think, closer and undecided on manager...

Ok, now we're getting somewhere.

How do you propose accomplishing this with the budget constraints that are placed on the twins? Be sure to consider the increase in Mauer's contract next year. Plan for morneau to get a major increase down the line too.

Who do you get rid of to reduce to the budget? How do you replace those players?

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: Part II - The Franchise Strikes Back

how about more home runs by Kubel?:D :D

I wonder what the twins record is when kubel homers this year. I can't help but think it's pretty good (considering the last two games where we beat the yankees kubel has been a huge factor).

Budget? We're the 11th highest team in payroll this year at $97.5 million. Just outside of the top 10. The Twins can't play that card anymore...

Ok, that's still less than half that of the yankees.

Besides, you missed the point. We still have a budget. We have a payroll. How do you reconcile what you want to do with our budget? I'm not saying we should expect less since we're a "small cap" team. I'm saying how do you improve the team without jacking up the payroll.
