Minnesota Twins 2010: Part II - The Franchise Strikes Back

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: Part II - The Franchise Strikes Back

Well, what I said was actually counterintuitive, but it seemed like a good line at the time.

In other news, I'm seriously pleased that Mauer stayed here. If he had left I'd have given up all hope in the "is no one loyal these days?" sense.

I could see that. And if the Twins made no serious effort to sign him, I also would have given up in the sense of "what does it take?"

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: Part II - The Franchise Strikes Back

The Brewers are awful. I'll be at all Twins games at Miller Park in late June.

The reason why Brewers fans tailgate (and it's the best ***ging tailgate party outside of Lambeau)...is because being fat, sassy, and drunk is the only way to tolerate that 2nd rate product (except for Ryan Braun...the most underpaid player in MLB.)

It's sad...because I want to like the Brewers...they're just so...

bad.

Twins shouldn't settle for series wins against teams like this. Sweeps are necessary if they're going to be a serious contender.

And there is literally nothing else to do near that stadium. It is like surrounded by industrial buildings.

Go for the SWEEP! Agreed with you on the sweep idea. We need it.

No, it IS surrounded by industrial buildings. They built it properly...not a ****ing downtown parking nightmare.

Yup. Been there as well.
I know there is no chance in hell of this happening but wow would Roy be a tremendous addition to the rotation.
If we landed him, that would be a huge boost to our odds. But I highly doubt we want to trade the prospects required to get him. I'm sure they'll look into and decide no.

thebrain is right. No, the sky isn't falling but the Twins issues can be overcome against teams such as MIL, CLE, DET and KC - they can't be overcome against the likes of NYY, TOR and most likely will not against TB. I'm hoping the law of averages will turn those numbers around by the end because if not they will cost them against the better teams in the leaugue.

And funny Brent doesn't mind Gomez showboating against his former team when down 12 friggin runs, but thinks Span was off his rocker to prematurely celebrate a home run turned fly-out. Both were lame. ;)

Go-Go's blast was a BOMB. It was admirable.

:D

JJ Hardy Sucks.

But his defense is mediocre on his career day. As was mentioned before, his throws home are closer to first then they are to home. So I guess it evens out.

Like it or not, Carlos Gomez is the most exciting player in baseball :D

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: Part II - The Franchise Strikes Back

I am sorry, but winning 2/3 against a team instead of sweeping them makes the Twins no less a serious contender. Also, sweeping said team makes them no more of a serious contender. Almost every team (barring miracle runs) will lose around 60 games a year at least...some of those games are going to be against teams that they should beat. Last year the Yankees, ya know, the team that won the World Series lost games to the likes of Baltimore (2/3 at Baltimore), Texas and the Cleveland Indians at Yankee Stadium. (2/3) That was just in the month of April!

Going through their entire season schedule: They lost again to Cleveland and Texas in May, lost to the Mets and got SWEPT by the Nationals and Florida in June, got swept by the White Sux in July/August, lost 2/3 to Texas again, lost 2/3 to Baltimore and lost to KC in September. Those teams are all mediocre, the Yankees couldn't sweep them, ,and yet somehow they were able to find a way to win the World Series. (that leaves out all the losses to Boston to start the season which was at least 7 in a row, losses to the Rays, Angels and other serious contenders)

If the Twins lose a game to Baltimore and that is the reason you think they aren't a serious contender, then sorry they never were one to begin with. Sweeps are hard to come by, and getting one/not getting one will make no difference minus another game 163 or home field advantage. And even then, any of the losses are equally as important as the third game of a series in May against the Brewers.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: Part II - The Franchise Strikes Back

A regular season game in May counts just as much as a regular season game in September. Each series is important, yes. Winning them is important too. But after rolling over for the Yankees, time to straighten up and destroy the lesser teams. Otherwise, it'll be a FORMER scsu-like trip the playoffs..again.

Yeah, that might happen anyways if they beat the Brewers...as I said the Yankees got swept in two series against Boston...at least 7 straight losses, and later on got swept by the Nationals! They still found a way to put it all together. This series means no more than any other and if the Twins win 2/3 in the majority of their series, well I am not a math guy but that is a pretty ****ed good record.

Long story short, untwist your panties it is just one game, in the second month of the season. :)

Jeeze. We're a quarter of the way through the season and writing off a team?

We all need to lighten up and enjoy the ride.

No way...if they dont sweep the Brewers how can they ever expect to beat the Yankees...it is impossible!!!!11!!!1!1

The season hinges on todays game...do or die! If they lose, might as well back up the truck and cover the field...though it was a nice run! :p

My self worth is dependent upon today's game, too. :D

Just go out.... have fun watching them... and take it from there.

It's May and there's over 100 games left. Relax and enjoy the ride; the twins are in first place and people are talking about how they're not doing good enough because they lost one out of 3 games?

Besides, go look at the Mariners. They won 116 games in 2001, then got bonked out in the playoffs...so a great regular season doesn't do much more besides get you a ticket to the playoffs.... once you're there it's a whole other game.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: Part II - The Franchise Strikes Back

1.) I don't wear panties
2.) I didn't say this is game was for all the marbles...but that's just semantics...since that's how you read it. still, something I didn't say.
3.) every game still counts.
4.) It's very Craig Dahl of you to be hoping for a series win after we've already won the first two.
5.) The Twins should beat the Brewers any game because the brewers are god-awful.
6.) Now that GE's self-worth is dependent on a Twins victory....go brewers. ;)
7.) JJ Hardy sucks.
8.) I'm not displeased with the Twins performance thus far in the season. They've done alright. I really don't think they're a World Series contender though. They're missing something...? I could be wrong..it's happened once before.
