Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: Part II - The Franchise Strikes Back

Mauer for sure, Cuddyer doesn't have a Double Play Burger named after himself...yet.

umm... Really? We're now criticizing Mauer for his double plays? The man who creates more runs per 27 than God Himself...?

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: Part II - The Franchise Strikes Back

Tongue firmly in cheek... :)

Don't listen to the Common Man much eh?

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: Part II - The Franchise Strikes Back

Game is going pretty well today. 6-0 at this point.
When the Baby Jesus came out on the on deck circle to hit, the bar I was watching the game at just went nuts.

I was obviously calling a patented Mauer 4-6-3, but a strikeout didn't shock me either.
We were having a party at a friend's house and I had the game up on my iPhone on MLB At-Bat. I said (somewhat puzzled), "Mauer is pinch hitting."

Every guy in the room stopped, looked at me, and I swear to you, you could see a lightbulb go off over everyone's head at the same time. We booked it downstairs and turned on the game. It was awesome.
I was at the game, and the biggest roar of the night was when everyone saw BabyJesus step into the on deck circle. It was indeed awesome. It is rare when an athlete has kind of impact that he does, and not just on the scoresheet. That is why they absolutely needed to get that contract signed.

He creates alot of runs, but still has the Joe Mauer Double Play Burger named after him. :p

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: Part II - The Franchise Strikes Back

Finally someone else gets it. Thank you Handy. You plot LOB with wins and I'll bet it isn't the negative correlation most people think it is.

You know me, I hate stats and sabermetrics, but I have to say I am surprised there isnt a "Runs scored per baserunner" stat or something.

And the Joe Mauer joke has been around forever because he did/does hit into them. That is why he allows the Nook to call his burger "The Joe Mauer Double Play Burger". Kirby Puckett used to hit into a lot of them too it is not a real big deal :)

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: Part II - The Franchise Strikes Back

Has anyone bothered to see if the other teams that are winning maybe leave a lot on base too. Teams that win get lots of hits, a lot of the time those baserunners are going to go for naught.

As of right now, The Twins are 1st in the AL in TPA and are 3rd in RS (by a wide margin) despite playing 3 more games than NY and 2 more than TB. The Yankees are 12th in TPA, but are 1st in RS, while Tampa Bay is 7th in TPA and are 2nd in RS, so yes I think it's safe to say the Twins are not as efficient in taking advantage of the men they put on base since they produce less with more.

And of course as usual the reaction to anyone bringing up the subject is worse than the actual criticism of their RLISP stat. No one said, ZOMG THYRE TEH WSTR EVEH!!!, however I don't think it's ludicrous to contemplate that their failure to capitalize at a better rate could cost them against the better teams from the East.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: Part II - The Franchise Strikes Back

I just recently gave up on them. Now I'm only listening to ESPN Radio/1500.

After Mike & Mike are off, I don't tune in until noon and turn it off after 8 pm. That is, whenever I'm actually listening, typically just during commutes and at work. I can't stand colin cowherd.

But I guess I do like it overall. I just miss AM1500.

Half of the day's programming isn't that great. Common and Barreiro I enjoy.

This. PA was great with Dubay, they had a nice balance, but now it's not good at all. And Hartman is too bland.

I agree I didn't like Hartman. It's a good thing he hasn't been on KFAN in over a year. :)

Hawkey is the only thing holding the morning show together. Morris can't put together a sentence and Sludge just complains about everything and thinks 311 is the greatest band ever.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: Part II - The Franchise Strikes Back

KFAN > KSTP or WCCO...yes it is sad but true. (because they all suck)

The only reason Common is funny is because people get so bent out of shape about it. Its like Gopher Hockey fans when Reusse rips on Lucia...everyone is so touchy :)

The morning show is bad. I get tired of them and their obvious love for football.

PA was great with Dubay, Common is good stuff (IALTO!) and Barriero is my favorite.

Garage Logic is the only thing of entertainment on 1500 (even though its for old people).

I'd much rather listen to KFAN than ESPN radio stuff that talks about sports I don't care about

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: Part II - The Franchise Strikes Back

I enjoy KFAN, Common is my favorite on the station, and Barreiro is ok. I can only stand PA in small doses. I usually have the morning show on when I drive to work, but its only a 5 minute drive, so I don't really listen to it much at all.

I can't stand WCCO and I don't like the national ESPN guys. I just don't care what is going on other places, I want to listen to the local sports talk.

That's just absurd. KFAN is just a bunch of recycled high school jocks who weren't good enough to actually play sports beyond that. Stupid banter. That's all that can be said. Even dumber callers.

Not true. Superstar played for the Vikes! :D :p

Hawkey is an idiot 40% of the time. Morris is an idiot 95% of the time. I love Sludge because he complains and is so cynical. Just like me! Though his love of 311 and basketball is pretty lame. Even with this, the morning show is the only thing I like to listen to.

PA is pretty bad by himself. When he has a co-host he's much more tolerable. Seriously, why did Puffy have to have his drug problems. It ruined the show. :(

Common's gimmick is old and worn out. I'm bored of him. Barriero is just a pompous arse.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: Part II - The Franchise Strikes Back

Morris was a perfect sidekick to Common. Other than that, blech.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: Part II - The Franchise Strikes Back

It's the pompousness and general arrogance on the shows that **** me off.

It's like giving me a microphone.
