Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks - 2013-2014 season thread

Re: Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks - 2013-2014 season thread

"With 452 career points, Schammel ranks second in state history behind former Eagan star Natalie Darwitz (468)...Minnesota’s all-time career goal list now goes: Darwitz (316), Schammel (269) and Krissy Wendell (219)."

Looks as if MSU is getting a natural goal scorer in Nicole Schammel. Yes, she's racked up all those points playing mostly Class A competition, but I have a hunch she'll do just fine at the next level:

I think so as well. Have only seen her in the tournament but has looked very skilled to me in those games. Should help the Mavs...but I think they need a few more like her.

Again, this isn't correct; Natalie Darwitz is not the leading points getter in Minnesota HS History.

It doesn't change the fact that Schammel has had a great career at Red Wing and I'm sure that the Mavericks are happy to be getting her.

Are you also including boys top scorers when you say that Darwitz is not the leading points getter in Minnesota HS history? For just the girls, MSHSL's website:

supports the points and goal totals referenced in the Hub article - they just haven't been updated as yet to include Schammel .

Not boys. Any list of top scorers that doesn't show the Curtin sisters is incomplete.

Was going to mention...I thought Renee was all time top scorer.

I wonder why the MSHSL wouldn't have them listed in their official state records?

The MSHSL official records kind of look like their official stats where half the teams don't input the data. It would be nice if someone compiled compressive records, but it is a big job after the fact when you don't keep up with the information as it happens.

Anyway, I'll get out of the Mav's thread so that fans can talk about upsetting UW.

Who says they don't? ;)

I give up. :) Who?

My comment was more pointing out the implication of your statement - that the other MSU recruits (and returning players) are not as skilled as her. She may be more skilled than the others, but I certainly can't compare NS with anyone else as I've only see her play 2 times (and I've never seen the other MN resident recruits). Of the kids I have seen in this group, including NS, I like what I have seen.

Although self-serving, Means stated of the group "Of course, recruiting is not a science, but on paper this is the best class of players we have recruited to Mankato. They should provide an exciting future for Maverick Hockey!"

I wasn't implying that though. I do feel MSU-M could use a few more just like her per more scoring punch. Something I feel they need to compete better in the WCHA. Which is not saying they don't.

I understood your point and was just cracking wise...asking who says they don't need a few more like her...as if someone said as much. Clear as mud I suppose.

...and the player in question just scored a beautiful goal to tie the game vs. Blake in their State Tournament semi.

Based on his comments, I think Coach Means would agree 100%.

Tough loss for Redwing, but the 2 MSU recruits combined for 3 of the 4 Redwing goals and 21 of their team's 32 shots on goal (65+%).

Butters with a 51 save shootout against Wisconsin. WOW

Moments of "Cinderella" glimmered this weekend, but it was not to be. Saturday's upset of Wisconsin was exciting, but couldn't get much going on Sunday. Proud of the girls and how well they played, and it's always hard to say "good bye" to the seniors. Looking forward to a strong incoming freshman class, and continued improvement next season.

Re: Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks - 2013-2014 season thread

Friday your team really owned the 2nd period, that was impresive and not expected. Your gals played fantastic D Saturday and capitalized on 3 miskates by UW to win that game. Sunday UW played flawless team D and that was the difference. Overall I commend you team on a well played and hardfought series, minus the chippy stuff from Sunday, though if the ref's crack that right away, it stops. We even had a little fun with your coach we nick-named Fabio, what a great guy. One of your hockey moms took our cheering a little too personally, but I get that she had a lot invested in the game overall through the years and you were winning for once, so she going for it.
