Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks - 2013-2014 season thread

Re: Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks - 2013-2014 season thread

The only thing that might get me to go is that if I don't, it will be the first league game, home or road, that I've missed in two years.

The key is fleece or flannel lined jeans (see L.L Bean) hand and foot warmers inside good insulated gloves and boots, and a good insulated jacket with hood. Burt's Bees lip balm is also a good idea. ;)

Wind pants over jeans over sweat pants over khakis over long johns. At least, that's my plan.

Have you already rented the crane you'll need to get you into your seat?

Maybe you should start with adult diapers then:cool:

:D
I'm going with Hux's idea of the insulated jeans. Mine aren't of the L.L. Bean designer variety, but I know from experience that combined with some good polypropylene long underwear I'll stay warm and dry, and going to the bathroom (in the conventional way!) will be a non-issue.

L.L Bean designer jeans...that's funny. Carhardt would work too ( no pun intended) but they are actually more expensive.

Cabela's or Duluth Trading get my endorsement. ;)

As I recall they are Cabella's...I'm a VERY good customer of theirs, sometimes TOO good actually. :o

My sincere thanks to the MSU-M video crew for moving the camera out from behind the netting for much better viewing! Good move!

The Mavericks are headed to Ohio this weekend and are hungry for a win. Goaltending has been solid despite the outcome of the last two series. I would expect this series to be very close as both teams are looking for points. Here's hoping the Mavs can generate a little more offense than they have- it's been a bit anemic.

Mavs over North Dakota 4-2. Great game ladies!

Danielle Butters on fire!

Danielle Butters on fire!
On the drive back from Madison, I was trying to think which goaltender has played consistently well in her games versus Minnesota, and I decided it may be Butters. At a certain point, she was unable to hold the dam back anymore, but she has made a ton of big saves to hold her team in games. She done the same against other opponents as well when I've watched her.

Watching a replay right now. Butters with some early, brilliant saves.

Watched both MSU games this wknd and will say the Butters DID play great in both games. It's the kind of tending you need in big games. But, to Means' credit, he switched up his PP to work the top and his players got some great puck movement along with some open shooting lanes that had NoDak back on their heels a bit. And, in yesterday's game, NoDak had caught on to MSU's PP but a little too much as their box stayed a little high expecting one more pass up high but instead MSU made a beauty pass thru the seam for a one timer off the edge of the crease. Great play. Great goal. Means seems to be taking some heat of late but he's made nice head-way with their PP for sure.

And back to Butters, she played great. Kept MSU in long enough to allow her teammates to eventually play some great 5 on five. In fact, thought MSU outplayed NoDak for 2 full periods and then Butters get them in for the 3rd period onslaught. Same for yesterday's game, Butters kept NoDak at bay until the skaters got their legs going and then, really, took it to NoDak to get their goals. So, point it, Means has got a big plus in Butters AND got his skaters playing some pretty good hockey.

"With 452 career points, Schammel ranks second in state history behind former Eagan star Natalie Darwitz (468)...Minnesota’s all-time career goal list now goes: Darwitz (316), Schammel (269) and Krissy Wendell (219)."

Looks as if MSU is getting a natural goal scorer in Nicole Schammel. Yes, she's racked up all those points playing mostly Class A competition, but I have a hunch she'll do just fine at the next level:
