Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: March 2-3 - MacNaughton in the house

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: March 2-3 - MacNaughton in the house

Gurt speaks truth. We are all Grasshopper to him. We learn from him, even in his pain (and he deserves pain, mind you).

Many (or at least two) who question my wisdom end up banned. ;)

BTW, what happened to, not naming any names, let's call him "K-RUBBS?" I notice that he's on hiatus.

I don't know, but I'm sure you were a causal factor one way or another. Thinking of pulling up anchor and looking for another good hole?

Serious issues?

Without hatred, my life would be a dark void from which no light, sight or sound could escape. I believe that I am the one with serious issues. :p

Why in the world would anyone care whether I root for or against their team? It's not personal. It's just sports.

I always root against the rivals of my team. And Notre Dame. ;)

Let me rephrase... my in-laws from Sconnie harass me every time the team loses. Yet I do not return the favor because I think it is pointless. I guess I would expect nothing less from message board folk But I don't like to do it and think no one should out of sheer hatred. I don't care if you do it, but don't give me any grief about it... in real life of course. Message boards exist only for that fact.

And no, I would not cheer against even bucky or whioux sue to lose. I have not in quite a while. I can't say I'd be excited to win but would not be cheering every time they made a bad play or gave up a goal. I can't help it that I'm just a better person than all you guys. tArrogance in effect!

EODS is a Wild fan, which probably makes him about 25% Gopher fan. Anyway...

We know that, it's just not an accomplishment to be ahead of the Wild. ;)

These are your serious issues? You can't be serious.

Does that mean we can call him Shirley?

I'm with Tiggsy in one respect - I don't feel better by way of what UND or UW do - if the Gophers season was crappy nothing eases the suck. You'd think fans of programs with that many titles would have enough self-esteem to do the same.

I agree for the most part but I would cheer against either school if they were playing in the National Championship game. ;)

Yeah, I'm fine with that. Is it ok that I really enjoyed it when Michigan beat UND last year? Mostly because that ******* UND Fan flipped the bird to the Michigan player after he scored the goal to put the game out of reach. I'm sorry, but I really enjoyed that.

The cheering for or against a team is a great topic.

For a long time I rooted for only 1 team until all the kids in the family started playing for many different teams in the WCHA, (1 in the CCHA), then attending all the different venues for many years the hate and bias opinions disappear.

I'd say im more of a WCHA fan than any individual team now, I most enjoy UND, UW, UM and UMD hockey, the passion of the fanbases, the matchups, the traditions and the family ties etc make it 2nd to none in my opinion.

So what are you going to do in a year when the conferences all change?

My wife and I will still travel to some of the games. My personal favorite matchups are UM/UND UW/UM UW/UMD I hope they continue to have these matchups in the future, they'll get us out of the house.

Sniff. Sniff. An era gone by.

I will also miss the Gopher/Sioux games, they were intense.

I will also miss the Kyle Rau thread... a tear has been shed.

You have to take into account the fact that the large majority of the hate stuff is nothing but humor--for most fans, I think. I love college hockey no matter who is playing and frankly don't get very bummed when the Sioux lose. It's more fun, though, when you can also give and take a little guff. That's why the titles are not that big a deal. The season gives us a lot of great hockey experiences, while the occasional banner is more of a bragging right than an experience. The bragging right means next to nothing to me now, except for the good natured teasing it is useful for.

Besides, it's harder to really feel the old Gopher hate when gopher players have been getting smaller, weaker and slower every year. I'd include uglier, but there has never been much room for change in that regard.

Great example of what will be missed.

That takes decades to fully appreciate and understand.
