Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: March 2-3 - MacNaughton in the house

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: March 2-3 - MacNaughton in the house

I don't agree with this necessarily, and besides that, it wasn't the argument he was trying to make in the first place. He said many of us were claiming that the Gophers were the better team solely because we swept UMD earlier this year, regardless of what happened the rest of the way. Totally ridiculous, and its no surprise he hasn't backed up his claim.

Okay, I haven't been on here to check your thread the last few days, but I will back up my claim. I never said anything about posters on this site stating that the sweep was a fall back option, just Gopher fans that I've talked to. And these claims were made back when you guys were flirting with falling out of the NCAA tournament, and we were riding our long win streak. Do you really think winning the McNaughton makes you the better team? If so, I want to know what you're on, because it's gotta be better than the stuff I have.

1) This is incorrect, the Gophers need 3 points to secure the cup outright. If the Bulldogs and Gophers end the season with the same number of points, they will be co-champions. Head to head only matters for playoff seeding.
2) Whoever wrote this needs to learn how to use commas.
They will still have the cup as co-champions though.

It doesn't say that the Gophers would win it outright based on those two outcomes....

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: March 2-3 - MacNaughton in the house

It's great they changed the rules on the MacNaughton Cup this year so it is accorded the kind of respect it deserves. For the last 3 or 4 years, it has been treated like a poor cousin.

glad to be able to entertain.

Hope goofer nation fails once again in the post season. Once paterson is done you can go back to all offense poor defense and fail in the regular season with all that talent. Cant wait.

Hauser won a national title so that formula has worked before. Plus the defencemen we still have should be just fine.

Hardware >> no hardware.
What is so hard to understand about that? If you were the better team don't you think you would have either a.) beat us at least once, or b.) had more points and win the cup instead of us.

Yes, in the WCHA...we will have had more pts than you which makes us the better team.
Good thing thing for you guys the MacNaughton doesn't include losses to Northeastern and Vermont at home :D

It's already been said, but to anyone with half a brain, hardware>no hardware. It's a season long accomplishment to win the McNaughton so I have no issue saying whoever of the two teams wins the trophy should get bragging rights as to being the better team after this weekend, regardless of the Gopher sweep in your hourse earlier this season. That being said, let's wait until both teams are done playing for the year to revisit the "Who's better?" argument, shall we? After all, the final outcome of the final game for both teams should pretty much put that to rest.

And if its true that some Gopher "fans" were trying to argue that we could have swept UMD in October, lost every game the rest of the season, and still should be considered better than UMD, then they likely were just trying to get a rise out of you, or are morons and should not be lumped in with actual functioning-brain hockey fans.

Never too early for a snifter of the good stuff.

Our consumption differences are really pretty interestng. We drink our paint thinner in order to become brain-damaged. Minnesotans have to be brain-damaged in order to eat their lutefisk.

Badgers sweep

If Becky sweeps, Brent will have sex with a dead deer in each of your living rooms.

I'm not sure if that would be worse for the deer or Brent, unless the deer was balding also then they would both be equally unattractive.

My German ancestors never ate lutefisk, and neither do I. better head over to Menard's and stock up on the paint thinner, you guys will need it.

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: March 2-3 - MacNaughton in the house

The cheering for or against a team is a great topic.

For a long time I rooted for only 1 team until all the kids in the family started playing for many different teams in the WCHA, (1 in the CCHA), then attending all the different venues for many years the hate and bias opinions disappear.

I'd say im more of a WCHA fan than any individual team now, I most enjoy UND, UW, UM and UMD hockey, the passion of the fanbases, the matchups, the traditions and the family ties etc make it 2nd to none in my opinion.

When the Gophs aren't in play, I will often root for the WCHA team (although I take some pleasure every time BC beats UND, although that is getting a little old since it happens all the time) when playing against another powerhouse team. Otherwise, I'll root for Cinderella over any established school, other than the Gophs.

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: March 2-3 - MacNaughton in the house

I think the Gophers are going to sweep this series, for a few reasons. 1) it's at home, where they actually win games, and 2) they want to win the league hardware for the seniors who have none, and 3) Wisconsin is young and beatable.

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: March 2-3 - MacNaughton in the house

I'm calling a split. I think the Gophers win tonight but take their foot off the gas pedal on Saturday.

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: March 2-3 - MacNaughton in the house

To me, it really depends how UMD does tonight as far as if there is any let down on Saturday.
I hope not. A sweep would still be great for the PWR regardless of what UMD does. Plus a sweep/3pts ensure that the Gophers win the cup outright. I really don't wanna share that thing!:D
