Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 11/29 & 11/30

Like seeing Gurt get worked up over the Bjug goal. :)

Too much turkey yesterday?

I'd talk about the games but really I don't have any idea as to the outcomes. Hate losing to the gofers, but I'll be satisfied if Bucky comes up with any points on the weekend.

Watched the Gophers play well on the road against what appeared to be a good Notre Dame team... Watched Bucky play well on the road against what appeared to a good Miami team. Notre Dame and Miami both get swept last weekend. Bucky gets shelled on the road in what seems to be an anomaly several weeks ago. Gophers get shelled in a special teams game at home last Sunday that may be an anomaly. On paper the Badgers have the experience over the Gophers but the Badgers have been playing a part time schedule, so it's hard to know where their at coming in... (Nice win over Miami on the road already seems a long time ago.) Sometimes freshman don't know enough to be worried or nervous, so hard to say what the Gopher new guys do in the conference opener. We'll have the Gophers at home for a late season show down if things pan out, and if they do, it will likely seem like a much bigger series than this one is for either team at the moment.

So... to me the only certainties in this Thanksgiving week series are: In Wisconsin there are a lot of dead deer, and in Minnesota a lot of nervous goats.

Having said all that, Death to Goldy.

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 11/29 & 11/30

Trying to figure out what to do tomorrow between the end of the Blue Line Club luncheon (around 1:30) and the start of the game (4:00). Kind of pointless to drive home and not have much time at all before having to drive back. Ideas anyone?

Stub and Herbs - great beer selection

I will be there today - I'm the one wearing the Gopher jersey. :)

Preview of series from Gophersports

The No. 1 Minnesota men’s hockey program returns to action this weekend with the its first-ever Big Ten Conference series against No. 12/13 Wisconsin at Mariucci Arena. Friday’s series opener -- the very first conference game in league history -- is set for 4 p.m. CT with ESPNU and 1500 ESPN broadcasting the action live (BTN2Go.com will have the game available on tape delay at 11 p.m.). Saturday’s series finale is set for a 5 p.m. puck drop on FOX Sports North, BTN2Go.com and 1500 ESPN.

You call that worked up?

Try unimpressed.

I really don't care about former Badgers or Gophers in the NHL unless they play for the Hawks - which makes Burish and Leddy the two greatest former Badgers or Gophers to ever play in the NHL as far as I'm concerned.

As far as Bjuggs... always liked his game and hope he someday contributes to a US National team.

Hard to believe that on the opening weekend of Big Ten hockey, neither of the Badger-Gopher games are on the Big Ten Network. OSU-Michigan is on tonight (while Ohio State-North Florida basketball is the 4:00 programming) and women's volleyball is on tomorrow night.

Funny, cause I can't think of anything more believable than that.

I'm a little surprised, too. I'm outside of the region today, so I was hoping for today's game to be on BTN when the schedule came out. As it turns out, it's on ESPNU, so I'll be able to watch it anyway.

I see the volleyball match is Penn State vs Nebraska. If there was one regular season match that they would want to show, it would be that one. That said, I'm kind of disappointed that both NBCSN and BTN are making their dedicated "hockey nights" on Fridays, leaving Saturdays a bit emptier on the college hockey front. Also, Wisconsin vs Minnesota at Mariucci Arena would be a great way to introduce college hockey to any curious eyeballs that have seen their promos (not to say anything negative about Yost).

Hey Gurt, at the Blue Line lunch they had the historian for the Wild. He told about an exhibition game in 1954 between the Gophs and the Blackhawks at the St. Paul auditorium. Hawks won 6-3.

I read this both times goldy and I'm still shocked that there exists a gopher hockey story that ends this way! :p

#$%)(#$%)(@#$@#$@# Roadrunner doesn't have ESPNU, ***. Guess it's time to find a bar to watch the game,...and down some thinner

Back then, the NFL teams would play exhibitions against college all star teams too.

Not a bad showing by the Gophers against a pro team...

Not about the goal itself, about it being mentioned in the first place. que sera, sera...

btw, attendance will be bad today so there goes that arrow.

Gophers sweep. So it is written, so it shall be.

Yeah, I know, but I operate under the assumption that these threads are for pointless back and forth.

And I excel at pointless back and forth. :p

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 11/29 & 11/30

I just heard the ESPNU commentator say Wisconsin is in white and Minnesota in red. I bet that made Gopher fans so happy.

Also, I would make a comment about all the late-arriving fans, but then you'll say something about having arriving fans at all.

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 11/29 & 11/30

Well, that period set college hockey back 20 years.

Between constipated play, a holiday crowd, poor television coverage and worse commentary the always mentioned, rarely seen 'expanding college hockey' mantra just took one on the chin.

To play devil's advocate, I wouldn't be able to watch this game if it was on a regional network. Also, that "mantra" is something that we can evaluate over a period of several years.

I've also learned that hockey is played in three periods of 20 minutes. The more you know...

Re: Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 11/29 & 11/30

Even considering the quality of the opponent, things were sloppier than they should have been for the Badgers. That just wasn't that enjoyable to watch, other than the fact that it was college hockey.
