Minnesota hosts Wisconsin: 11/29 & 11/30

His username is mnstateofhockey and the website is mnhockeycentral.com. Who would have thought he'd be a Gopher homer in his writing of a series preview against a hated rival?

The funniest part is that I was fairly critical of the Gophers and probably more complimenary of this Badgers team that is only a shade above .500 than I could have been. If he thinks this was homeristic, he should read some my other work :D

Reading is really asking a lot of sconnie fans, otherwise I'd agree with you.

Yeah, I wish I could spell Minnesnota. Oops, I mean Minessoda. No, that's not it. Minsenota? sigh I'll never get it.
I, too, have some interesting spellings/names for your wonderful state but I will refrain from posting them.;)

If there were any badger fans left, you'd likely hear a slow clap about now. Too bad they all gave up on the hockey team though. :)
Most of the time we don't know we have a team because they aren't on TV; we can't remember that we used to have a team because there aren't any banners to remind us of our past glory. What else are we supposed to do? :p

Obligatory link and quote whenever a Gopher brings up 06:

I came to within earshot of a dad and his kid, both decked out in Minnesota gear. (There's an apparel store inside the rink that easily rivals anything I've seen at a professional game.) The dad stopped at the 2005-06 team photo that included Toronto's Phil Kessel and Winnipeg's Blake Wheeler and sighed with dramatic regret. "That was God's team," he told his little boy. "They should have won a national championship, but then they got lazy. That was God's team." God's team, it turned out, had gotten upset by Holy Cross in the first round of the tournament;2 the NCAA title that year was ultimately won by … Wisconsin.

(From this great Grantland piece on why college hockey in both states is pretty great, if you've never read it)

It's a nice article. I talked to the author on Twitter after she wrote this piece. She's from California and has visited and written about these teams and this rivalry before.

Hockey is indeed great in both states (I have lived in WI for over a decade and it's much better in Western WI than Eastern WI), but I would stop short of calling it comparable in both states.

It's really nice to see the Badgers giving back to the community, because that is how hockey is going to grow in-state. The Badgers playing pre-season in Eau Claire and Ryan Suter's ownership of the Madison Capitals, are great things.

I'd say Wisconsin has a ways to go as Minnesota has been deeply engaged in the sport for decades, but I would definately say Wisconsin is doing the right things.

By the way, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone on both sides of the river. I hope you and your family have a very happy, safe, and healthy holiday weekend.

Thanks...I'll be in the college-hockey-less DMV area Friday night. Thankfully, ESPNU picked up that game! :D

Drunken (redundant) Sconny fans are cute in a 3-toed sloth exhibit at a zoo surrounded by animals that matter and are actually interesting sort of way, but otherwise only fill a void that could be filled with folded chairs and unused garbage cans and wouldn't be a drain on anything nor anyone.
