Minnesota hosts UNO: 10/15-10/16

Re: Minnesota hosts UNO: 10/15-10/16

USHL Scoring Machine is meaningless in the WCHA. No one knows that more than a Gopher fan. Again, without stuttering.

Since over 60% of the Gopher players are former USHL players, I guess we might as well pack it up then guys.:(

Aggressive players get you in a lot of trouble on the road in the WCHA. Has Blais toned them down yet, or are they still wild? Sounds like an early season WCHA issue to me. Their defense will have no answer for Minnesota's speed. They better hope they're great back checkers or they're going to get lit up.

Well, their PK unit killed 8 penalties in a row last weekend, UNO took 6 fewer penalties than the Gophers, outscored their opponents 13-3 and put 101 SOG in 120 minutes. Sounds to me like their aggression/skill level was clicking on all cylinders. Let's hope that's not the case this weekend.

Nice to see your spirited fan aggression Scooby. But we're all curious to see how long it will last. Anyone taking bets?;)

If Hill does his job, they will get better...

Hopefully he encouraged them well in practice this week! ;)

UNO Wild Stallions.
What happened to the old Scooby? The new one is much more...arrogant. :D

I agree with you guys, something is up with Scooby. When someone figures out what it is, please let me know.

Re: Minnesota hosts UNO: 10/15-10/16

I call splitskies. I, like Harley, don't think one week is enough time to fix the obvious troubles they had in their own zone. If they have, then awesome. I'll gladly eat crow.

Re: Minnesota hosts UNO: 10/15-10/16

Well, a bit late, but might as well chime in.

First, I wish I was making the trip. Nothing says College Hockey like Hot Dish, Salad made of marshmallows and Jell-O (if you're fancy you throw in raisins and shredded carrots) and some Scandinavian party music (Yorgi Jorgensen anyone?).

Second, Hmm. Took one thread in the WCHA to result in tools who claim UNO (MFJ ) to make obnoxious comments and get replies from tools representing UM (bauknin) to respond in kind. Seems like a good ratio compared to our tenure with some teams in the CCHA.

Third, I expect some great hockey this weekend. The Mav's are ready and the extra ice should provide them with some room to run n gun. Given the way the guys respect and have reacted to Coach Blais.... look out it's gonna be fast and furious.

Fast and furious to 4 points for MN. The only gun Blais and Co should have is one that they'll shove down their throat. Quick and painless. It's easier that way. MN sweeps.

When you misinterpret a post refutation to an "obnoxious" UNO fan and then spell the posters name wrong (Bakunin), doesn't that also make you a UNO "tool"?

It sounds like UNO will be all amped up and ready to go with all the Minnesota ties they have on there team. Gophers better come out strong.

There are a couple interesting Minnesota ties besides Blais, Guentzel, Hastings, Matt Ambroz, and Ryan Walters. Mike Taffe, backup goalie, is Jeff Taffe's cousin, and Eric Olimb is Larry Olimb's nephew.

I like this quote by Dean Blais:

Blais' favorite memory as a Gophers player was walking up the stairs at the old Mariucci Arena with the band playing. Returning to the new Mariucci, he said, also will be a thrill.

"I could not think of a better place, or a tougher place to open," Blais said. "[The Gophers] are one of the premier programs in the country. We know who they are."

And again if you think UNO doesn't have its own issues early in the year you're kidding yourself. All the teams do. Maybe UNO had "too" easy of a time of it last weekend? Just a thought.

Where did I say they didn't have their own issues? Ever think that two teams that have bugs to work out can indeed win one a piece, and lose the other?

Re: Minnesota hosts UNO: 10/15-10/16

I like the optimism of the UNO fans. A WCHA title in two years.
I'd be willing to say that UNO will win one before Minnesota does again. How's that for optimism? Problem is, I think it's because Minnesota is that bad, not that UNO is that good

Well I guess UNO should take 4pts home with them this weekend anything less would be a failure correct?

If Minnesota is going to change the trendline around here splitting to UNO is not the way to do it. They have the advantage this weekend and they need to take advantage of it.

You get down with your bad self.

Preview story from the Omaha World Herald on UNO's visit to Mariucci:

http://omaha.com/article/20101013/MAVS/710139834/-1#gophers-will-welcome-mavs-to-the-wcha

Nice Quote from Dean Blais:

“They're not looking at losing to Omaha,” Blais said. “If you ask any of their players if we're capable of going in there and beating them, they're going to tell you no.

“We're definitely the underdogs. Take our lineup versus their lineup, they have all the advantages on paper. But I know our guys are going to go in there and play hard, so Minnesota's going to have to earn it.”

Will be interesting to see which team is better conditioned to play on the big sheet of ice.

Re: Minnesota hosts UNO: 10/15-10/16

You know I could actually get to like the new arrogant, kick em' in the * ScoobyDoo that came with the USCHO package upgrade. I don't like the smileys though.

Cheap coaching trick. Play the underdog role when you can to get the troops fired up. I guess he has the right since he never got to play it while he was in North Dakota.
