Minnesota High School Hockey Section Previews and Predictions

Gotta say, it's amazing that you can be so current on HS hockey in Minnesota... living in Milwaukee and all.

My family still lives in Minnesota, and I get back quite a bit during hockey season. I try to catch a game or two when I'm back. I also do video work for Minnesota Hockey for Bantams, Pewees, and Squirts, so I get back to do that and work tournaments occasionally too. Quite a few high school games are also streamed online, which helps. Coverage has come a long way in the past 5-10 years, which is nice to see.

Not that I don't enjoy Milwaukee (it's an awesome place to be during the summer), but I do miss home quite a bit during hockey season.

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey Section Previews and Predictions

I had a few wrong that I spotted myself. Let me know if you see others that need to be fixed. Been pretty busy and made some mistakes transferring from excel to the website.

You have Dylan Malmquist listed twice and at #8 only a first name, then another name beneath it and that seems to have caused all the names following to be incorrectly matched with school. Just go over the whole thing if you want it to be meaningful. May want to just re-import from the excel.

Thanks. I will go over it again. Appreciate the feedback. I was a bit distracted when I did the importing for that section.

I am also posting my chosen spotlight games for each week on the High School page for those interested. The idea being it will be a quick reference for those who want to know which big games are scheduled for the upcoming week without having to weed thru the whole schedule.

This section is going to be absolutely stacked again this year, but man was Minnetonka decimated by departures (graduates and early). They are only returning 7 of the 102 goals they scored last season and only 16 of their 265 points from last year. No doubt they will reload with incoming players, but that's crazy. Going to be some great battles in this section come playoffs. Wayzata, Benilde, Eden Prairie, and Holy Family all have the talent to make a serious run this year. Some great games already this season involving these teams.

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey Section Previews and Predictions

Until Holy Family actually starts beating good teams they deserve no love in this section. Last season they had one quality win against BSM, but otherwise lost by 5 to Edina and STA, lost to a very, very average Elk River, were smoked in sections and were blitzed 8-0 by Edina already this season.

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey Section Previews and Predictions

You may want to edit your 2AA preview to talk a little about incoming players. So far the shophs for Edina are lighting it up, especially Wait and Bellows. I knew they'd contribute, but Wait had 2G, 1A last night in a 3-1 over Wyazata after a 2A night the night before.

Lots of truth there Slap Shot. Holy Family's record against top teams has been rather woeful.

I purposely didn't include any talk about incoming players because for some sections I know a lot less about incoming talent than others. I'm quite familiar with District 6 hockey, so I am quite familiar with the loads of talent Edina in it's lower classes. I just wanted to be consistent with things in my write-ups though.

Believe me, Edina's young talent factored into my decision to pick them to win 2AA and will factor into my prediction of who wins Class 2AA at state :)

I've been watching these sophs since they were first year mites as my son is in the same year class. I am still surprised they are having this much impact this early.
