Minnesota High School Hockey Section Previews and Predictions

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey Section Previews and Predictions

Edina won 6-1 tonight behind 5 SHG??!?!

It looked like 3 SHG on the summary I saw, one by Dylan Malquist and 2 by Cullen Munson.

Edit: Yikes! I looked at HockeyHub and they have it 5 SHG like you said!

Edit2: I think HockeyHub just screwed up. If you look at the times of goals and penalties, it seems like only one goal was a shorty.

In other news, Cambridge-Isanti took Duluth East into overtime. I think the Greyhounds are going to struggle a bit early as they try to find scoring in the absence of Forbort, Toscano, Moore, and Lundgren.

I just posted my Section 8AA Preview and Predictions.

Thank you to all those who have read and offered their feedback. I will be starting my predictions for Class AA and Class A State Champions, Runner-up, and 2014 Mr. Hockey after Thanksgiving. I will also be posting Spotlight Top Games on the High School page each week and will be posting weekly rankings on this page starting in a few weeks.

Yikes. East was agonizing to watch at state last year and now less offense? Not exactly what I expect to see from East.

And HS games in internet or FOXN??

And HS games in internet or FOXN??

Some are streamed but it's a little hard to find out which ones and when. No real central location for them, more like school by school.

No, nothing like it used to be sadly. We had a 4 or 5 year run of weekly internet broadcasts (plus some games on FSN for 2 years) from 3 different sources and all of them are now defunct. I've read that some schools have taken upon themselves to stream since they film their teams already, but I've not had much luck in finding said streams to date as there isn't a central location to communicate them to the masses.

Re: Minnesota High School Hockey Section Previews and Predictions

I have begun my process for seeding and predicting the outcome of the 2014 Class A and Class AA State Tournament.

VIEW HERE

I have posted my predicted seedlings for Class A. I will be predicting a game every day or so until a winner is announced, then I will seed Class AA and do the same. Once tournamenr predictions have been made, I'll post nominations for 2014 Mr. Hockey and then announce a winner. Should be a fun exercise. Comments and feedback welcomed :)

I posted my prediction for the opening round of the Class A State Tournament.

East Grand Forks vs Mankato West

West wouldn't be rated lower than Luverne, FWIW. Interesting matchup this would be though, and we may get a look at it during the Hilltopper Classic over Christmas. If Mankato West and EGF win their first two games, they'd play in the tournament title game.

Luverne isn't rated higher than Mankato West. They only rank the top 4 teams, and the bottom 4 are randomly assigned to a top 4 team for the first round. All this means is he doesn't expect Mankato West or Luverne to be in the top 4 in the tourney.

edit: The brackets are also messed up. I don't know why 1 would play 3 and 2 would play 4 in the second round...

The top five teams get seeded at the state tournament now, and West would probably be ahead of whomever comes out of 5A. Maybe Cathedral too. Still a long ways to go though.

Never figured out why they seed the sections from top to bottom, but not the State tournament.

Never figured out why they seed the sections from top to bottom, but not the State tournament.

A long time ago, I think it had to do with the fact that there wasn't a lot of relevant data to compare teams from across the state, whereas, there'd be enough intra-sectional games during the season that you could. All the technology available has made the world a lot smaller in that regard though, and they've slowly been moving towards seeding everybody.

That is correct. Only top teams are seeded. Thanks for pointing out the bracket error. That was an oversight. Correcting now.
